Historia
“AIR RAID, PEARL HARBOR. THIS IS NOT DRILL.” At 7:58 a.m. on December 7, 1941, an officer at the Ford Island Command Center frantically typed what would become one of the most famous radio dispatches in history as the Japanese navy launched a surprise aerial assault on the American navy stationed in Hawaii. In a little over two hours, the Japanese killed more than 2,400 Americans and propelled the US’s entry into World War II. Dead Reckoning is the story of the mission to avenge that devastating strike.

In this age where GPS navigation is taken for granted, MAJ Mitchell’s navigation & timing to the intercept location is nothing less than astounding! He really should have gotten the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Historia
The attack on Nazi Germany’s dams on May 17, 1943, was one of the most remarkable feats in military history. The absurdly young men of the Royal Air Force’s 617 Squadron set forth in cold blood and darkness, without benefit of electronic aids, to fly lumbering heavy bombers straight and level towards a target at a height above the water less than the length of a bowling alley. Yet this story has never been told in full. Max Hastings takes us back to the May 1943 raid to reveal how the truth of that night is considerably different from the popularized account most people know.

Wars have played a crucial role in defining the United States and its place in the world. No one is better equipped to analyze this subject in depth than retired US Army Gen. Wesley K. Clark - decorated combat veteran, author, Rhodes Scholar, and former NATO Supreme Commander. In this course, Gen. Clark explores the full scope of America's armed conflicts, from the French and Indian War in the mid-18th century to the Global War on Terrorism in the 21st.

Errors and Ommissions
Revisado: 07-25-20
I detected some errors such as referring to the USS Reuben James, sunk by a U-Boat before the US entered WWII, as the Reuben Jones. The major error was stating Gen. John Pershing would not allow US troops to serve as replacements in Allied divisions. This is wrong because African American soldiers were sent to fight with French units rather than serving with white US units. Although this course amounted to an overview of American military history, the failure to mention the discrimination against African Americans in the armed forces & subsequent integration of the armed forces by President Truman in 1948 as a part of our military history is a major omission.

Naval historian Craig L. Symonds' Lincoln and His Admirals unveils an aspect of Lincoln's presidency unexamined by historians until now, revealing how he managed the men who ran the naval side of the Civil War, and how the activities of the Union Navy ultimately affected the course of history.

Historia
The President of the United States had reason to be grateful. Dirk Pitt had unearthed the greatest storehouse of knowledge in the ancient world: the Alexandria Library. The trail began in a lonely fjord in Greenland. It ended on the banks of the Rio Grande. In between Pitt had frustrated an assassination, rescued a hijacked liner, survived a deadly gun battle and halted an invasion. A gripping, action-packed story by a master of the craft.

Historia
The great Oglala Sioux chief Red Cloud was the only Plains Indian to defeat the United States Army in a war, forcing the American government to sue for peace in a conflict named for him. At the peak of their chief’s powers, the Sioux could claim control of one-fifth of the contiguous United States. But unlike Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, or Geronimo, the fog of history has left Red Cloud strangely obscured. Now, thanks to painstaking research by two award-winning authors, his incredible story can finally be told.

U. S. Government Lies, Duplicity and Genocide
Revisado: 03-02-20
This book is a good example of how our government, with the explicit approval of white citizens, stole Native American land with negotiations that made no attempt to understand native culture in which legal practices and property ownership were totally alien and conclude treaties they had no intention of keeping. When the greed of miners seeking gold or settlers taking land that did not belong to them, the government tore up treaties and forcibly drove native peoples away in the name, of civilization and progress. It was not surprising the various tribes fought back ferociously with formidable leaders like Red Cloud. Native warfare was indeed cruel and heartless, but the U. S. Army did not win any glory by perpetrating indiscriminate murder of natives who were not fighting against them. As a retired army officer, I view the army's performance during that period as shameful. I've never felt any sympathy for the miners, settlers, trappers, hunters, etc. that fell to natives defending their land, culture and way of life. After all, fighting against injustice and for freedom is the American way.

Sci-Fi Thriller
Revisado: 01-05-20
This was a thriller I could not stop until the conclusion. It was also a bit frightening. Sometimes science fiction is a prelude to science fact. There is the lingering threat of biological warfare and“superbugs” that defy treatment on Earth. As humans advance deeper into space, there is the possibility of encountering life forms that could be as deadly as the diseases brought by European immigrants had on indigenous peoples that had no immunity.

One-sided History
Revisado: 01-05-20
The quality of this boo is typical of McCullough books I’ve read. Although it meets the description of bringing American ideals to the then-frontier, it leaves out the genocide and displacement of Native Americans and the land-grab promises the US government had no intention of keeping. The book is commended for dealing with the issues of slavery and abolitionism.
