Good parts, oversimplified adult life mostly good for making busy dads feel guilty.
Revisado: 05-26-24
I’m fascinated by stoicism, but found this particular presentation less helpful than I had hoped. It’s read well by the author and other voices, giving quotes from various sources, but perhaps because my life is more complicated as a widowed single father to a young daughter, I found the main impact only a feeling of guilt that I have responsibilities I can’t share with another partner, in raising my daughter. Too many things are easier said here, than put into practice. There is a little to no acknowledgment of more complicated family situations that significantly reduce the quality time this book emphasizes where more acceptance of the uncontrollable and emphasis on self-love and making the most of quality time we can make, would have been more helpful.

great explanation
Revisado: 03-14-24
The idea of love banks and meeting others in a place of mutual enjoyment has been the most important relationship advice I've gathered and this has been the best explanation I've come across. I'm making this a recurring listen just to keep this insight active in my thoughts as I continue in the relationship I hope will last the rest of my life. this is also a well narrated.

Historia
Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon are probably best remembered for their films together, but both were clearly established actors in Hollywood by the time they appeared in their first film together. The great film director Billy Wilder once noted of Jack Lemmon that Lemmon "was my everyman", and Lemmon did indeed represent a great everyman to American audiences during the latter half of the 20th century.

Do the people who picked the book cover not know who Jack lemmon is? The cover (at the time of this review) is Walter Matthau and Art Carney in the 1965 production.

Historia
These Are the Voyages - The Original Series, Season One , at 28 hours, is perhaps the most ambitious audiobook undertaken. Narrated by Vic Mignogna (Executive Producer and Captain Kirk in the web-series Star Trek Continues), this "audio play" documents the creation of the Star Trek TV series and production of its two pilot films and the 28 episodes from its formative first season (1966-67). This unparalleled production boasts a cast of nearly 100, including the voices of many of those who helped make the first Star Trek series.

Great behind the scenes chronicle and great narration. I really hope they do audiobooks for the rest of this series and more like it for newer Trek productions.

at least as good as the original!
Revisado: 12-24-21
I recall the first book being about layers of virtual reality coming from the outside, going in. This one's about starting inside and getting out, for the most part. There are so many parallels to the original, in a good way. I love reality questioning psychological thrillers and I think this one does a great job. Where the first one felt a bit like a guilty pleasure for some sexist fantasy fulfillment, I think this one address those head-on or or at least questions and holds some of it up to a mirror or makes a joke about it in a way that made me feel less guilty for enjoying the ride. There are still dark and twisted elements that are very much like Stephen King but I'm a sucker for all the Sci-Fi stuff and the narration is top notch. The author's notes and narrator's bloopers at the end were a nice cherry on top, leaving a smile on my face when it was over, on top of the very satisfying ending.

interesting subject, terrible narrator

Glenn Ford may be my favorite classic actor. He had a warm, everyman quality on screen. it's a shame this seemingly well written biography is narrated by a nasally stuffy narrator, reading at a rushed pace.

My only complaint is the lack of any really joyful Ben Sisko moments though there were oprtunities for it at the beginning and end. Ben has to be very serious for most of both parallel stories but I found both otherwise totally engrossing

Revisado: 03-23-18
This classic adventure explores a strang new world while giving a lot of new info on a familiar TOS one episode alien. it has action and social comentary. It has shades of gray and optimism. the narrator does a great job of bringing to life and distinguishing a variety of familiar and new characters.
