Narration was awful and the story seemed disjointed and superficial. Lots of characters but little character development.

A Hundred Afterthoughts In Search Of A Story
Revisado: 07-25-24
Meg Gardiner should have known better than to create this jumble of a confusing, disjointed, and meandering story. Having more characters than the invasion at Normandy did not add anything to clarity. I kept thinking that the editor in charge of this project must have been on vacation or lost her red pencil along with forgetting the words omit and delete. My review distilled down to a bumper sticker is, "Uninspired."

Historia
For the first time, John Sampson is on his own. The brilliant crime-solving duo of Washington, DC’s, Metro PD and the FBI has a proven MO: Detective Alex Cross makes his own rules. Detective John Sampson enforces them. When military-style attacks erupt, brutally sidelining Cross, Sampson is sent reeling. The patterns are too random—Sampson’s friend, his partner, his brother—have told him. Don’t trust anyone. As a shadow force advances on the nation’s capital, Sampson alone must protect the Cross family, his own young daughter, and every American, including the president.

Good start but degenerated quickly.
Revisado: 07-02-23
This really wasn't an Alex Cross book but a John Sampson book. The poor and inconsistent sound quality made listening difficult at times. The cardboard cutout cartoon villains ruined the book for me. That plus hundreds, if not thousands of psychopaths in positions of trust and authority blindly following a disembodied scrambled voice on the phone .

Help, I'm Trapped In A Time Warp
Revisado: 05-25-18
I've been wondering how this book was created. I have this vision of the author on her way to her publisher and dropping the manuscript down a long set of stairs. Being in a hurry, she simply picks up whatever random set of pages are on each step to form the chapters. This is like learning how to disarm a bomb from an amnesiac.

Phoning It In
Revisado: 05-03-18
Top notch narration on an uninspired story. There was a significant lack of character development. Unless you had read the other books in the series, this book would come off as documenting the brutal carnage in a series pointless of gun battles.

Historia
It's the most dangerous case of Will Trent's career. He knows this from the moment he sets foot in the abandoned Atlanta warehouse where a body lies on the floor—the body of an ex-cop. Bloody footprints leading away from the scene reveal that another victim, evidently a woman, was carried away and has vanished into thin air. And, worst of all, the warehouse belongs to the city's biggest and most high-profile athlete—a local hero protected by the world's most expensive lawyers.

Each New Book Is Worse
Revisado: 09-25-17
The author has degenerated from crime mystery to overwrought Teenage Romance Drama between its lead characters. Adult professionals with the emotional insecurity of a 12 year old are both uninteresting and annoying. It is hard to imagine this number of of emotionally unstable individuals outside of a therapeutic setting. The narration was well done however.

Clinically Boring

It took forever to get the story going while you were forced to listen to tons of irrelevant details. It also seemed implausible that the chief of psychiatry would not notice that the doctors around him were straight up nuts.

Voices blended together after a while. John did a great job as always, but with this many characters, perhaps additional readers would make the transitions smoother.
