Historia
It starts with a body, a young woman found dead - torn to bits - in an Iowa cornfield on one of the few family farms still managing to compete with the giants of Big Agriculture. When Sergeant Riley Fisher, newly promoted to head of investigations for the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, arrives on the scene, an already horrific crime becomes personal when she discovers the victim was a childhood friend, connected to a dark past she thought she’d left behind.

Ridiculously gory
Revisado: 04-22-24
Large plot holes and gratuitous violence. Altogether unpleasant. Won't read anything else by this author.

Historia
In the picturesque village of Guzmán, Spain, in a cave dug into a hillside on the edge of town, an ancient door leads to a cramped limestone chamber known as “the telling room”. Containing nothing but a wooden table and two benches, this is where villagers have gathered for centuries to share their stories and secrets - usually accompanied by copious amounts of wine. It was here, in the summer of 2000, that Michael Paterniti found himself listening to a larger-than-life Spanish cheesemaker named Ambrosio Molinos de las Heras as he spun an odd and compelling tale about a piece of cheese.

awfully long winded ...
Revisado: 03-23-19
and not much point to it. At times lyrical, then boring. I struggled to finish it. If it hadn't been a book club group read, I would have stopped about 1/3 in. The author probably thinks he is enticing us all to move to Catalan. It sounded unbearably grim. All those fueds and grudges! The story-telling elements were interesting.

Always lovely to hear Bob speak - about anything!

And he does. Most enjoyable were the stories of his early career. His love of his craft shines through all of his conversations.

Lots of wondering who the bad guy is, and even who is who? Lots of twists and turns.
