Historia
Have you heard that language is violence and that science is sexist? Have you read that certain people shouldn't practice yoga? Or been told that being obese is healthy, that there is no such thing as biological sex, or that only White people can be racist? Are you confused by these ideas, and do you wonder how they have managed to challenge the logic of Western society? In this probing volume, Helen Pluckrose and James Lindsay document the evolution of the dogma that informs these ideas, from its coarse origins in French postmodernism to its refinement within activist academic fields.

Historical and academic approach
Revisado: 08-20-21
Having heard Pluckrose and Lindsey on podcast I thought this book might take the tone of mocking the topics addressed in the book. It is rather the opposite. They lay out the origins and influences of the topics and then give examples of how they are exercised in the world. The last few chapters I found to be the best as they look at liberalism.
I find it useful to read books of all perspectives and philosophies on social matters and this should’ve included as to give a person some foundational perspective.

Historia
Trixie is a feline of a unique sort. She's hustled the streets of the Big Easy many times but never quite like this. Trixie finds that when in New Orleans, hoodoo is much more than a tourist shop full of souvenirs. Reality has never been stranger and the stakes are much higher than ever before. See how this sexy feline takes on every challenge thrown at her and in the process discovers that there's more to life than meets the eye. This is a short story in a new series by Karli Rush.

Engaging Story
Revisado: 05-31-19
There is something about the magical that makes for an engaging story and I think that is what sold it for me with Nine Lives. The Voodoo, the feline adventure, the abnormal yet real elements that drove the story. This makes for different reading and possibly not everyone's cup of tea. That being said, the story is clever and can hold a readers attention with a nice pace and flow towards the end.
I am usually not a series person and prefer standalone books, but seeing as the nine lives will be told through nine short stories I think I will follow in the adventures.

Just imagine you walk into a cheesy old greasy-spoon diner, the kind that ought to hand out antacid along with a napkin, knife, and fork. You ask the waitress for eggs and bacon, and she brings you a plate with live chicken on it. I mean, feathers and beak and the whole bonanza. Just think about a mix of Kafka and O'Henry and you are somewhere close to the mark.

A nice bit of magical darkness
Revisado: 04-08-19
First Steve Vernon story I have read and found it to be very entertaining. I enjoy the realm of magical realism and this story has that. I won’t give any spoilers. I enjoyed the construction of the gut punch at the end... no pun intended.
