Historia
As a female Jewish physicist in Berlin during the early 20th century, Lise Meitner had to fight for an education, a job, and equal treatment in her field, like having her name listed on her own research papers. Meitner made groundbreaking strides in the study of radiation, but when Hitler came to power in Germany, she suddenly had to face not only sexism, but also life-threatening anti-Semitism as well. Nevertheless, she persevered and one day made a discovery that rocked the world: the splitting of the atom.

this isn't particularly in depth regarding Meitner's research and discoveries but goes of her life written in easily digestible short chapters.

Historia
On April 6, 1965, Georges Lemay was relaxing on his yacht in a south Florida marina following one of the largest and most daring bank heists in Canadian history. For four years, the roguishly handsome criminal mastermind hid in plain sight, eluding capture and the combined efforts of the FBI, Interpol, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. His future appeared secure. What Lemay didn't know was that less than two hundred miles away at Cape Canaveral, a brilliant engineer named Harold Rosen was about to usher in the age of global live television.

Historia
The grid is an accident of history and of culture, in no way intrinsic to how we produce, deliver and consume electrical power. Yet this is the system the United States ended up with, a jerry-built structure now so rickety and near collapse that a strong wind or a hot day can bring it to a grinding halt. The grid is now under threat from a new source: renewable and variable energy, which puts stress on its logics as much as its components.

little light on the technical aspects
Revisado: 08-30-24
it's a good little primer for the layman bit it's not horribly complex. nonetheless, for someone new to this stuff wanting a general understanding of the grid and recent technological advances related thereto, it may be beneficial.

Historia
Starting from scratch, simply by picking stocks and companies for investment, Warren Buffett amassed one of the epochal fortunes of the twentieth century - an astounding net worth of $10 billion and counting. His awesome investment record has made him a cult figure popularly known for his seeming contradictions: a billionaire who has a modest lifestyle, a phenomenally successful investor who eschews the revolving-door trading of modern Wall Street, a brilliant dealmaker who cultivates a homespun aura.

Texas. They took the most contrary bunch of frontiersmen, ranchers, farmers, cowpokes, shiftless no-accounts, shootists, rascals, and politicians, jumbled them together, and somehow formed a state. They called it Texas, but for defenseless women and children, it was hell.

narration is great but the story is soso
Revisado: 08-22-23
Zane Grey has much better novels than this, a lukewarm romance/ranger-vs-rustlers story. The narrator does a fine job, however. It's light and amusing but he's done better.

Historia
Group theory is a term that is mainly used in fields related to mathematics, such as algebraic calculations. In abstract algebra, groups are referred as algebraic structures. Other terms of algebraic theories, such as rings, fields, and vector spaces are also seen as groups. Of course with some additional operations and axioms, mathematicians accept them as a group. The methods and procedures of group theory affect many parts and concepts of mathematics as well as algebra on a large scale.

I haven't been involved with math lately, and upon having curiosity piqued regarding group theory and being an enjoyer of audiobooks, stumbled upon this brief introduction of the topic. Honestly, there's not a lot here; it just sort of refreshed my memory regarding symmetry and stuff. There is no accompanying ODF document contaning the equations, either. But, for the price it's okay.

A wonderful story of adventure through the different spheres of life by Scottish author George MacDonald. A uniquely creative tale that will capture both the old and the young for ages to come.
