Simply masterful…
Revisado: 08-03-23
I genuinely hope I can summon even a crumb of the skill Jeremy Robinson has within himself for my own life.
I started out with “The Dark” and “Tribe” and — also having loved other books by him in the past — decided to get into the whole timeline in order shortly after.
I got through over half of the entire timeline in less than a week. Finally finishing the final book made me laugh, cry, seethe, gasp, and everything else on the emotional spectrum!
Jeremy Robinson is a beautiful person and easily my favorite author, and he inspires me in so many ways. I feel like because of him I have a little more hope for my writing… and for myself. And for that I am forever grateful to this man and everyone involved in this superb timeline and world.
Thank you for this and everything you’ve done and do… I can’t wait to see what comes next! 🩷

Historia
Mysterious gateways are appearing throughout the universe, bridging violent civilizations, leading to war, and sowing chaos. While some species succumb to the pandemonium, the Chut’un forge an unholy symbiotic relationship—The Order—with red Europhids, a vast hive intelligence populating the universe’s far reaches. Desiring structure and fearing the unknown, they cull everything opposed to their plan, including the Europhids’ blue counterparts, carrying out a galactic genocide until only one blue Europhid remains...inside Moses Montgomery, a.k.a. "Dark Horse".

Historia
The final book in the Michael Vey series opens with the Electroclan facing a devastating loss: Michael is missing. He made the ultimate sacrifice to save his friends, and now he's gone. What is next for them and the revolution? The battle on the island of Hades ended with a devastating explosion that left the island a smoking ruin and much of Hatch's army dead. However, Hatch survived, and while his plans have certainly suffered a setback, he's more determined than ever to bring the world's governments under his control.

Disappointing…
Revisado: 11-19-22
I was really looking forward to the wrap-up of the main plot, but this… was unexpected.
(SPOILER) Firstly, how little Michael is actually in this book pisses me off. We should have had something from his POV earlier on, without it the book felt so strange.
(SPOILER) Secondly, the ending where he kills Hatch is so annoyingly anticlimactic I want to vomit. A large majority of the other glows deserved a hit or two on Hatch, and I’d even argue one of them deserved the pleasure of killing him… not Michael.
This leads into my (SPOILER) third and final point: Cell 25. Throughout the series — and especially this book — cell 25 was always this super horrible hell to be thrown into where the prisoner suffers torment by Nichelle as well as hallucinations by Tara, in conjunction with the pitch darkness of the cell itself, meant to induce delusion and insanity. However, Michael not only was only kept inside for a relatively short time, but Abigail also helped ease his pain and prevent insanity. All of a sudden now it’s this punishment everyone knows about and fears (even nonels).
This was mostly to rant about random stuff I didn’t like, overall it was cute and a decent wrap-up, but some major issues made the experience feel tedious. By the very end (an awful ending by the way) I was just ready for it to be over.
Love the series overall, though!

Incredible. ❤️ (no spoilers)
Revisado: 11-12-22
First off, let me just say that I can understand why people might not like Kirby Heyborne’s narration here. Fred Berman, the narrator for books 1 and 2 in the series, has a different style than Kirby, and I’ll admit I was skeptical at first too (even though Kirby Heyborne is in my top 5 favorite narrators of all time). My skepticism comes from Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, which is the series Kirby Heyborne narrates the large majority of, which I adore with all my heart and think is some of the best narration I’ve ever heard. That series and this one — while possessing many similarities — have very differing tones in my opinion, and in turn require different narrative tones and inflections.
Did Kirby do a bad job? Absolutely not, in fact he was spectacular (especially considering his performance at the end of the book).
Do I prefer Fred Berman’s voice after hearing him narrate the characters for two full books prior to this one? Yes, but it’s expected there will be some who prefer one narrator over another, especially in this specific circumstance.
Let this encourage you to purchase this book and continue the series: I, an avid audiobook listener, almost never continue any series that changes narrators throughout its books; I find it annoying and a deterrent most of the time. However, the only instances during which I purchase the next book in the series anyway (and end up enjoying every minute of it) is when I see the new narrator is Kirby Heyborne. He is masterful (in my opinion, of course), just in a different way from Fred Berman.
Aside from all that, the story was superb as usual, the plot progression was beautiful, and Heyborne’s performance was icing on the cake for me. 10/10 once again.

I originally thought about giving it less stars because of the ending (no spoilers!), but after like two seconds of thought I concluded that this is one of the best books I have ever listened to/read. I have nothing bad or even slightly negative to say about it. Pretty much everything about it is a 10/10 for me. If you’re looking for something to keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time, this is it.

I rarely feel the need to write reviews these days, and I rarely remain excited for more books in such a long series… but this particular series, by far, is one of my favorites AND one of the best. From the performance, to the writing and storytelling, to the myriad of characters… just beautiful. I feel so blessed to have read this. Thank you Kirby Heyborne and Ransom Riggs. 💜💜
