Very captivating - certainly not completely true to her story but adapted well into a book. The narrator did a great job.

Historia
France's iconic queen, Marie Antoinette, wrongly accused of uttering the infamous "Let them eat cake", was alternately revered and reviled during her lifetime. For centuries since, she has been the object of debate, speculation, and the fascination so often accorded illustrious figures in history. Married in mere girlhood, this essentially lighthearted child was thrust onto the royal stage and commanded by circumstance to play a significant role in European history.

SUCH A GREAT IMAGE OF THE LIFE OF THIS WOMAN
Revisado: 04-01-25
I bought this book a long time ago and finally have listened to it and I'm thoroughly impressed by it. I feel like we got a great look at a very tragic lady who rose to the heights of courage and dignity in the midst of times she couldn't control. I recommend this book.

Historia
Nancy Wake, nicknamed 'the white mouse' for her ability to evade capture, tells her own story. As the Gestapo's most wanted person, and one of the most highly decorated servicewomen of the war, it's a story worth telling. After living and working in Paris in the 1930's, Nancy married a wealthy Frenchman and settled in Marseilles. Her idyllic new life was ended by World War II and the invasion of France. Her life shattered, Nancy joined the French Resistance and, later, began work with an escape-route network for Allied soldiers.

A WONDERFUL STORY OF AN AMAZING LADY
Revisado: 09-17-24
I really enjoyed this - It took me longer to get through this than I would have thought...I usually listen to audiobooks while at work but I found myself doing a lot more pausing because I wanted to take in what she said. I know we all imagine that in similar circumstances, we'd be as brave as Nancy and fight against occupiers even though it could cost us, our families and loved ones their lives. But history shows us that far too often we sit back or, even worse, go along with those powerful forces with gusto. I admire this woman for her tenacity, courage, toughness and spunk. Excellent book and I'm glad I bought it. Looking forward to listening again another time.

Historia
The Kennedy name has long been synonymous with wealth, power, glamor, and—above all else—integrity. But this carefully constructed veneer hides a dark truth: the pattern of Kennedy men physically and psychologically abusing women and girls, leaving a trail of ruin and death in each generation’s wake. Through decades of scandal after scandal—from sexual assaults to reputational slander, suicides to manslaughter—the family and their defenders have kept the Kennedy brand intact.

PULLING THE CURTAIN BACK ON CAMELOT
Revisado: 07-17-24
I knew for some years that the Kennedy Camelot myth was exactly that. My mom has always been fascinated by JFK's assassination since it happened during her formative years; so I've probably heard more about the Kennedy's that your average child of the 80s. This book was incredibly eye opening as to how dark and depraved the Kennedy men have been. Again, for some time I knew there were a lot of skeletons in the closet but when you see page after page of this recurring pattern of behavior, it's quite damaging to the good will many of us have retained for the Kennedy's. I walked by Ted Kennedy's grave the day he was interred in Arlington (merely by happenstance) and honestly had I known so clearly about the depths of his depravity, I might have behaved differently.
I think what I really came away with was a feeling of disgust in the way the "Media" have been behaving as gate keepers for what information the public is allowed to know about their favorite politicians and celebrities. THINK VERY CAREFULLY about the things we've seen in the past few years...who they vilify, who they demonize, who they run cover for, and who they outright lie for. They really haven't changed their tactics...but I think the advent of social media and the internet have robbed them of their monopoly on the curtain or the gate. Food for thought...

A balanced account of game changes, conflicts and ambitions. The fall from popular grace of the previously adulated brother of the heir to the British throne as a consequence of his marriage to a beautiful and dynamic Hollywood starlet of colour makes for fascinating listening in best-selling royal author Lady Colin Campbell's balanced account. Lady Colin knows her royal history and psychology, and as the first seven years of her adult life were spent in the USA, she has a foot in both the American and British camps.

Lady Colin Campbell is a wonderful author and personality. This book is well written - I feel like she gave Meghan a lot more benefit of the doubt than she has turned out to deserve...but it shows she has good perspective. I'm excited to read the updated version!

AN AMAZING BOOK
Revisado: 05-07-24
With the first chapter or two, I wondered how the author could fill a whole book with the last couple months of activities of the Romanovs without boring me to death. To my great surprise, Helen Rappaport did an amazing job of introducing us to the family, those who surrounded them and those who determined their sad fate. I'll be checking out more of her books and I'm grateful this one was made available for subscribers.

Historia
When Victoria was born, in 1819, the world was a very different place. Revolution would threaten many of Europe’s monarchies in the coming decades. In Britain, a generation of royals had indulged their whims at the public’s expense, and republican sentiment was growing. The Industrial Revolution was transforming the landscape, and the British Empire was commanding ever larger tracts of the globe. In a world where women were often powerless, during a century roiling with change, Victoria went on to rule the most powerful country on earth with a decisive hand.

WONDERFUL
Revisado: 05-02-24
Like many others, I've watched the movies and series depictions of the life of Queen Victoria...but unlike those that I've seen, this bridged the gap between her young and old self...and I found it enlightening. I'm SO glad that the author delved into the Abdul Karim issue because I was about to watch the "Victoria and Abdul" movie which seems to give a VERY different version of their relationship. The narrator has an extremely pleasant voice and I enjoyed this! 21 hours well spent!

Historia
What would God say about those who blatantly misrepresent His Holy Spirit; who exchange true worship for chaotic fits of mindless ecstasy; who replace the biblical gospel with vain illusions of health and wealth; who claim to prophesy in His name yet speak errors; and who sell false hope to desperate people for millions of dollars? The Charismatic movement has always been a breeding-ground for scandal, greed, bad doctrine, and all kinds of spiritual chicanery. Best-selling author and pastor John MacArthur chronicles the unsavory history behind the modern Charismatic movement.

SUCH A GREAT BOOK
Revisado: 10-25-23
Having grown up as a false convert in the hyper-charismatic movement, this book was very crucial to pointing me to scripture for the truth about things I grew up believing. God had saved me a couple years after this book was released and it was my finding this conference a few years later that really caused me to question and come to a biblical understanding of those experiences. Thank you Pastor John for courageously and lovingly confronting this issue. God is not done saving people out of deception!

Historia
Is there a new reformation happening in the church? It depends on who you ask. The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) is a popular and fast-growing new movement of Christians who emphasize signs and wonders, and teach that God is giving new revelation through new apostles and prophets. But is this biblical Christianity? In Counterfeit Kingdom, apologists and NAR experts Holly Pivec and Douglas Geivett show how the NAR’s key tenets distort the gospel, twist the Scriptures, are influenced by New Age practices, and lead faithful Christians to shipwreck their faith.
