A Fantastic Series Start!
Revisado: 11-28-19
This book was such a great listen! Honestly, time just flew by as I listened to it. I definitely need Book 2 right now!!!
I loved Reid's struggle with who she is as a person. It's a very interesting dynamic for a character to go through especially with the lens of gender roles in the society here and what she is tasked with doing. It provides some great character moments.
What I also loved was the lack of a romance. Yes, there is attraction and flirtation but we completely avoided some cliches along the way and that was uber refreshing. And that's coming from someone who loves romance in her stories.
I wanted a little more from the plot but I'm not sure what. Perhaps more physical action? There are a lot of subtle twists along the way so I was never bored with the story; so I'm not sure what was lacking for me. It all builds nicely for the sequel so I have some high expectations for what's to come.
Audiobook is fantastic! I loved the accents and how each character had a unique voice.

A Coming of Age Story With a Mermaid Twist
Revisado: 05-02-19
This is reminds me of a coming of age story except our lead is a mermaid now on the shore. I found there wasn't much to the plot (we go through the everyday motions of her new life) but I still enjoyed reading and following along. There were always little inklings along the way (so I was never bored) and I'm excited to see where the plot will go next as a result.
The romance surprised me in a lot of ways; it isn't a huge focus but it's there and it wasn't overly predictable.
This was such a fabulous audio listen! Right when it started to play I was fully immersed into the story and the characters. The narrator here is Dollcie Webb and she does a great job of giving all the characters their own voices so it is super easy to follow along. She has the perfect cadence for an audiobook narrator--seriously, it was such a nice read to listen to that I was finished the novel before I knew it!

Great Audio Production!
Revisado: 10-06-18
Ever since we were briefly introduced to these two in the first book in the series, I've been curious about their story.
Second chance romances can be hard to write but I think Magan succeeds in delivering for the most part. We get plenty of flashbacks to the past so it helped define the relationship these two have and why they've always been drawn to each other. It was also great to get half of the story told from Brooke's POV and then from Eddie's. I personally would have liked to have seen more "present" day romantic interactions between the two--I felt like we focus a little to much on their individual developments--so I wasn't entirely sold on why they work as a couple now.
I think I'm in the minority as well when it comes to character likeability. I really didn't like Brooke as a character at all. She came across as vain, somewhat shallow and shameless. I hated how she treated her current boyfriend, Drake, and how she seemed to lack any remorse about her feelings and actions towards him. To me, there was nothing redeemable about her and I felt like she didn't grow either by the end of the book (ie she didn't learn any lessons).
I liked Eddie though. He seemed a little more level headed. And of the two, I think he showed a little more growth by the end of the novel.
As for the audio production, I thought it was FABULOUS! Kassiopia DeVora was a great narrator--I was truly impressed by her narration. The accents were spot on; each character had a unique voice; and she did a great job singing as Eddie when the occasion called.

Historia
At 34, I'm reeling from a divorce. I don't want to party or try to move on. I just want to stay home and post a new recipe on my blog: Brynn's Dips and Balls. But my friends aren't having it. Get out there again, they say. It will be fun, they say. I'm still taking a hard pass. Free designer cocktails, they say. And that's a game-changer. Too bad my ex shows up with his new arm candy. That's when I lose my mind.

Hilariously Sexy!
Revisado: 02-08-18
I had an absolute BLAST listening to this audiobook! This book was this wicked combination of sweet, sexy and absolutely hilarious. I honestly don't think I have laughed so much while reading book in a long time.
It helps that the leads are who they are; this story wouldn't be the same without them. Brynn is a bit of an oddball but still utterly charming. I loved watching her rebuild her confidence after her divorce and discovering her own self-worth as the story progressed. And Tom is a great complement to her character as he too has to rebuild his confidence.
Watching them fight (but never really succeeding) their fabulous connection made for an epic read. Seriously. I've never laughed so hard during a sex scene before while still finding the entire thing to be sexy. Their chemistry is palpable and their inner monologue about the other person had me swooning throughout. These two are just the cutest!
I really wasn't sure what the plot was going to be given the synopsis but this book surprised me in the best way. These two find themselves in some crazy situations and hilarity ensues. But it also has its touching moments as well where these two connect on that deeper level I love to see.
Like I said before, I had so much fun listening to this book. The narrators totally made it this awesome experience because I honestly don't think I would have enjoyed the humour as much otherwise. Erin Mallon as Brynn managed to capture this quirky character and bring her to life in a very humourous way. She made me love Brynn instantly as soon as her inner monologue started. And Luke Daniels as Tom is perfection! He sounds exactly like I'd expect a manly TV handy man to sound--like a sexy Ron Swanson (which is something I thought I'd never say) but it totally works for this book.
This book was a great blend of sexy, sweet and hilarity and it was made even better by the audiobook production. Highly recommended for fans of quirky romantic comedies!

Historia
Traditions are important. Especially in the South. College football. Rivalries. Tailgating. Halftime shows. Some things just don’t change. Until Reese Holland shows up with her long legs and no-bullshit attitude to audition for the prestigious all-male Rodner University snare line. It doesn’t matter how much hazing she has to endure from Laird Bronson, with his narrowed green eyes and arrogant smirk. She wants that damn spot, and she’s more than good enough to earn it. She expects there to be tension. Even friction. But not sparks hot enough to burn the entire campus down.

Surprised me in the Best Way!
Revisado: 01-19-18
When I read the description for Drumline, I knew it would be the perfect book to introduce me to the world of audiobook romance reads. The premise was fun and unique and I knew there would be fantastic tension between the leads. I couldn't wait to start it!
The plot for this story really surprised me in a great way. I thought most of this novel would be about Reese fighting for her spot on the team while fighting her attraction to Laird. But it has a much deeper and more heartfelt storyline than I anticipated; especially in the second half of the novel. The first half of the novel focuses mostly on the tryouts for the team and the chemistry that is constantly brewing between Reese and Laird. But the second half of the novel is really where these characters shine and the great development of the romance and the characters take place.
This was a fantastic choice for my first romance audiobook! The narration by Tracey Marks and Stephen Dexter was great. I loved the accents each character had; that definitely brought the setting of Alabama to life for me as well as reminding me that Reese wasn't from there. And they definitely captured the chemistry these two had in every scene. I thought they did a great job! I mean, they made me cry which is always a good thing when it comes to performance!

An Immersive Mythology Experience
Revisado: 11-20-17
This is a great book for anyone who loves mythology reads in young adult fiction. It's an intricate world filled with everything you enjoy about mythology stories. You've got sacrifices; god/goddess siblings fighting and backstabbing; and battles. But what's really cool is how it's set in a modern world. It's an interesting weaving of old and new and I was captivated by it.
Everyone is playing a different game simultaneously and I found that to be super exciting as a reader. I just had to know what was going to happen next and what the reactions would be.
The audiobook production is great! Probably one of the best I've listened to lately. I think Bradley Pittman and Jamie Lee-Lewis captured the characters brilliantly. Although, I did find it slightly off-putting that some of the characters had different accents depending on the narrator. For example, Jamie gave Goran an almost Australian accent while Bradley gave him a monotone voice and I found that a little bit confusing when switching POVs.
What I really enjoyed about the audiobook though was the sound effects they used in the background. I found they immersed me into the story and brought it to life in way that a straight reading wouldn't be able to do.

You Never Know Who to Trust in the Wild West
Revisado: 10-15-17
I was drawn to West for a number of reasons but the main two were (1) time travel and (2) new adult genre! While I mostly read New Adult Contemporary Romances, I'm always looking out for other non-contemporary NA reads. And time travel?! One of my favourites to explore because I love the delicious tension that it brings.
And this book definitely delivered on the tension!
There are a lot of things at play in this story and I love how everything weaves together. I loved trying to decipher what was happening and why. And not knowing which characters I could trust and not trust adds this layer of suspense that had me wanting to delve deeper into the story.
I liked that Josie was an older heroine because she has that touch of maturity YA heroines often lack. She's experienced a little more in her life isn't super naive when all is said and done. That was a refreshing change.
The romance did take on a greater focus than I anticipated but I did enjoy it. Sometimes I found that it took away from the other plot-lines but it does work well with all that is happening.
