Irritating cadence

It was actually a good story. I made it through. But the clipped rhythmic cadence of the narrator was terrible. The accent was appropriate for the part. But often lack of expressive delivery. Some portions there was greater expression which made it more obvious when there were passages with flatter read.

Comment on voice

I am fine with most voices but recognize others are not. I checked several times to see if I accidentally had playback speed on 1.25. I didn't. However the slightly frenetic voice does actually fit the character who is emotional, impulsive, and aggressive. For those sensitive to voices, you may want to listen to sample and see if it works for you. The voice does add to the performance and is appropriate for the books character.

Maybe true to teen inconsistency

Voice was a bit irritating for the main character but likely reflected the way the character was written. It was still irritating as bit overly rushed. I have read the rest of the series. Books are mildly entertaining just not riveting. The main characters special powers are not used at logical places or to full advantage. This might work if she were consistently young and impulsive but suddenly she is bright and great problem solver. Of course that probably describes a teenager.

Book is a must for those who enjoy this series. If you are new to the series start at book one. Each story is light and enjoyable but there is romantic story arc developing from book one.
