Historia
Here is the timeless story of Mary Poppins, the world's favorite nanny, and her magical adventures with the Banks family. Mary Poppins is like no other nanny the Banks children have ever seen. It all starts when their new nanny is blown by the east wind onto the doorstep of the Banks house, carrying a parrot-headed umbrella and a magic carpetbag. She becomes a most unusual nanny to Jane, Michael, and the twins.

Not as good as the movie.
Revisado: 04-11-25
I kept reading that the author hated the way Disney rewrote the book for the movie, so I listened to the book. Unfortunately, I didn't find it nearly as good as the movie.
The reader was excellent, but the book's recording speed is too fast. Listen to it at 0.9 speed instead.

Historia
In 1942, Norman Hanson learned to fly the Royal Navy's newest fighter: the US-built Chance Vought Corsair. Fast, rugged, and demanding to fly, it was an intimidating machine. But in the hands of its young Fleet Air Arm pilots, it also proved to be a lethal weapon. Posted to the South Pacific aboard HMS Illustrious, Hanson and his squadron took the fight to the Japanese. Facing a desperate and determined enemy, Kamikaze attacks, and the ever-present dangers of flying off a pitching carrier deck, death was never far away.

Recorded too fast
Revisado: 03-31-25
This is a really good book, but they messed up the recording speed. When you listen, make sure to have it read at 0.9 speed and the reader's voice will be great.
As for the story, it reveals how turbulent the first few years of the Kennedy administration were. As a kid, I hardly knew any of this, and would love to have heard my parents thoughts during it.
It does a good job of giving you personal experiences, mixed with the historic story.

The favorite book of William Burroughs. A journey into the hobo underworld, freight hopping around the still Wild West, becoming a highwayman and member of the yegg (criminal) brotherhood, getting hooked on opium, doing stints in jail or escaping, often with the assistance of crooked cops or judges. Our lost history revived. With an introduction by Burroughs. A BookSense 77 selection.

At first, I thought that I made a mistake by buying this book, but after an hour, I found myself along for the ride. It sounds like it was written before WWII, and gives a glimpse of criminal life back then.

Historia
Fred MacMurray was one of the most durable stars in motion picture history. Fred arrived in Hollywood in 1934 and within a year he was one of the top leading men in the movie industry. He was the leading actor or one of the leads in films through 1973 when Walt Disney Studios released his final starring role in a motion picture, Charley and the Angel. Thirty-nine years - five separate decades. Few stars have equaled that distinction. Of course every star career has its peaks and valleys.

A True Legend
Revisado: 02-03-25
I grew up during his TV years and was always amazed by how he handled his TV family, but didn't know much about him. The book isn't riveting, but was well worth the listen, just to hear how a down to earth guy could succeed in Hollywood.
The only negative is that the author discusses far too much of his movies, spoiling the story for anyone who wants to watch them. I found myself having to fast forward to skip spoiling them.
