Historia
From trips on private jets and encounters with world leaders to shocking accounts of misogyny and double standards behind the scenes, this searing memoir exposes both the personal and the political fallout when unfettered power and a rotten company culture take hold. In a gripping and often absurd narrative where a few people carelessly hold the world in their hands, this eye-opening memoir reveals what really goes on among the global elite.

Two-Faced FaceBook
Revisado: 03-30-25
The former Facebook employee provides an eye-opening, detailed analysis and real time description of how Facebook allows fake news to target specific audiences for maximum, sometimes devastating effect. How Facebook began as a benign, high minded effort to improve and expand the individual's social connections and awareness. Unfortunately, as it grew and gained millions of Facebook (now META) users in America and in many other countries, it has devolved into a self-serving, power-ravenous entity run by uber wealthy leaders seeking ever more power and influence for themselves. While promoting an image of "smart good guys helping to connect the world," behind the scenes were meticulously crafted lies and fabrications in order to evade legal sanctions or restrictions. I found this book entertaining, enlightening, frustrating and alarming all at once. Everyone should listen to this book as an opportunity to peek inside the attitudes and behavior of those running the show. And what a SHOW it is. Their indifference to the negative influence Facebook/META wields and refusal to recognize any responsibility is shocking and damning. Zuckerberg and senior staff fight continuously to present a 100% positive image to the world all the while currying favor internationally and with the greatest power broker in this country,

Good murder mystery
Revisado: 01-02-25
There were lots of twists and turns so I was kept guessing. Action flowed well until the end where the plot turned implausible and protracted. Still, I’d recommend this for fans of detective based murder investigations.

John Grisham is a master story teller. He really captures the personalities of the characters and keeps the action lively and unpredictable. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

Long Winding Tale
Revisado: 12-13-24
The story was a dark psychological mystery that was intriguing enough to keep me guessing and wanting to know what would happen next. The beginning was a warning of unsettling events to come. However, as the story unfolded significant inconsistencies stood out that were inconsistent with earlier perspectives expressed by the protagonist. By the end, those gaps of logic were annoying, including the open-ended, non-conclusion that left me unsatisfied. That’s why I rated it with just 3 stars.

Twister
Revisado: 12-07-24
There are so many twists and turns that sometimes it feels hard to keep track. However, I like the granular detail the author provides to integrate all the players with the plot and subplots. I found the whole story very entertaining and will look forward to another by this author.

Charles Dickens Meets Jane Austen
Revisado: 11-14-24
This was a little slow at the beginning but it developed into a really fascinating mystery set in England during the early to mid 1800's. The language is perfect for the time period and with the exception of the two primary women characters, the narrator did an excellent job with the different voices. It is a long story, but the pace is such that after the first couple of chapters it flows from one event to the next very smoothly. A few times I felt annoyed by the protagonist, and his timidity. Much is made of duty and propriety that is both interesting and irksome realizing how powerless women were in that era, except in very secretive ways. The respect paid to women then was so stilted and superficial while the reality was the opposite.
This is not a mystery for everyone. You really must enjoy the writing of Jane Austen and Charles Dickens to enjoy the story and customs described in this wonderfully detailed novel.

Lots of possible clues, but none that let me determine the outcome. I enjoyed this mystery and as always LOVE the narration of Angus King. He makes everything he narrates better than it would otherwise be. I do recommend this book for mystery fans.

Historia
After Englishman John Blackthorne is lost at sea, he awakens in a place few Europeans know of and even fewer have seen—Nippon. Thrust into the closed society that is seventeenth-century Japan, a land where the line between life and death is razor-thin, Blackthorne must negotiate not only a foreign people, with unknown customs and language, but also his own definitions of morality, truth, and freedom. As internal political strife and a clash of cultures lead to seemingly inevitable conflict, Blackthorne’s loyalty and strength of character are tested by both passion and loss.

Historical Japanese Customs
Revisado: 11-05-24
As an experience in learning about ancient Japanese customs, it was very good. However, it was a very long book that was prefaced with the information it was PART ONE. Well, at the end of the looooong story, I waited for a prompt to continue or buy PART TWO. Sadly, there was/is NO Part Two that I can find. Consequently, wading through all the "palace intrigue" and power struggles, left me both disappointed and annoyed that it just didn't finish the story in my opinion. I read it especially because I wanted to watch the video dramatization of it and decided it would be more enjoyable if I had background information. I can only hope now, that the video series concludes with a much better ending than the book. But I'm not holding my breath.

I bought this book due to the stellar reviews and struggled through it by increasing the narration speed. I should have returned it but kept expecting it to get better. It didn't. Can't recommend it.
