I'm conflicted. Like others have said, there are way too many characters. I went crazy trying to keep track of them. But once I decided to not worry about it and just listen to the story it really didnt matter. I liked some of the secondary stories and how they got tied together. While I loved the edge of your seat suspense, the ending was a big disappointment. There wasn't a great reveal or mystery after all that build up.

Made it halfway then could not take anymore! There is very little "story". It reads like a psychology textbook on anxiety, memory and cognitive behavioral therapy. The narrator's tone is pretty clinical as well.

Confusing narrator
Revisado: 01-04-21
The narrator was so frustrating! Her tone does not change for any of the characters. Not. At. All. I never knew who was speaking. On top of that, I could never tell if the character was saying the dialogue out loud or if they were thinking it. If it weren't for this book being so short I would have stopped listening. However the writing was good and it held my attention. I enjoyed the story.

They aren't kidding about the narration! I can't review the story because I couldn't listen to it for very long. This is the first time I haven't finished a book based on the narrator.

I only listened to the first 3 hours before giving up. So I don't know if I can give it a fair review. But I returned it and feel I should say why. I just had a hard time staying engaged. My mind kept wandering off. Then I would skip back, listen again and still be confused! I think it was the book within a book part that lost me. There were 2 viewpoints, Eve, the surviving victim and Jim, the killer. They were mostly in the present but would also remember the past. Then there was the telling of his other crimes in the past which just got muddled with the rest. It went on and on, explaining many of the other crime's details. In fact, I would say about 80% was short stories of other crimes he committed. I know you need some of it to understand the killer but it quickly became boring and disturbingly repetitive. We get it, raped and murdered. If it were a regular book I would have definitely skimmed over these parts and gotten to the good stuff, the characters of the actual story in the present. The whole game of catching the Killer! With that said, I think the problem lays with me! The reviews, here and on Goodreads, are some of the best I've ever seen. So don't listen to me!

Historia
There are two sides to every story: yours and mine, ours and theirs, his and hers. Which means someone is always lying. When a woman is murdered in Blackdown, a quintessentially British village, newsreader Anna Andrews is reluctant to cover the case. Detective Jack Harper is suspicious of her involvement, until he becomes a suspect in his own murder investigation. Someone isn’t telling the truth, and some secrets are worth killing to keep.

3 1/2 Stars rounded up!
Revisado: 08-15-20
I really enjoyed this book. I couldn't wait to get back to it! I started getting angry towards the end but it eventually pulled it all together. But I had big issues with a few things.
Possible spoiler---- I dont think it is but other's might!
The summary says the cop is a possible suspect so I dont think the following is a spoiler. At a certain point he is in possession of the victim's phone. He leaves it on and on him at ALL times. Seemingly unconcerned that the police would trace it. And they don't. No one bothers to trace a murder victim's phone. Uugh!
Another maybe spoiler...
There is a group of girls who used to all be friends in high school. After 2 of them die, the remaining girls are not concerned for their safety. Neither are the police. Really?!!
I can overlook a lot for a good story but it was infuriating! If you can too, I recommend this book!

This book held my attention the whole way through ( my main barometer for reviews!). Towards the end I couldn't wait to get back to it and sometimes I would just sit in my car and listen! I was hesitant about this one because I've read some reviews that made the abuse sound horrifying. Dont get me wrong, he is awful; A narcissistic SOB! But in the Domestic Thriller Universe, it wasn't that bad!

But when her best friend, Summer, invites her on a glamorous getaway to the Mediterranean aboard her billionaire boyfriend's yacht, the only sensible answer is yes. Belle hopes the trip will be a much-needed break from her stalled acting career and uniquely humiliating waitressing job, but once she's aboard the luxurious Lion's Den, it soon becomes clear this jet-setting holiday is not as advertised.

Good Read
Revisado: 07-02-20
Overall I really liked this story. One big complaint, however. While you are listening to dialogue from the present time it will switch to the past then back and forth without marking the transitions. I had to skip back all the time and pay close attention to the minor "pause" between time periods. In the written book it is marked by putting the past parts in italics. It was still enjoyable and worth a credit!
