Historia
Before Owen Michaels disappears, he smuggles a note to his beloved wife of one year: Protect her. Despite her confusion and fear, Hannah Hall knows exactly to whom the note refers—Owen’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Bailey. Bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child. Bailey, who wants absolutely nothing to do with her new stepmother. As Hannah’s increasingly desperate calls to Owen go unanswered, as the FBI arrests Owen’s boss, as a US marshal and federal agents arrive at her Sausalito home unannounced, Hannah quickly realizes her husband isn’t who he said he was.

Entertaining enough
Revisado: 05-17-23
The story line was more original than many. So that is a positive.
I did look forward to seeing how it turned out. But it wasn’t gripping. It needed more of something to make it a book to enthusiastically recommend.

Historia
Narrated by Liz Miller, a penniless PhD candidate desperate to finish her dissertation, the novel begins when Liz's boyfriend abruptly ditches her, rendering Liz homeless and reduced to couch-surfing at best friend Petra's tiny Manhattan studio apartment. Trying to find an affordable living space, she stumbles across a Craigslist posting that will change her life: a room with a view in a prewar Greenwich Village apartment. The rent is a pittance, but in exchange, the tenant must be willing to read aloud daily to the apartment's sight-impaired landlady.

Compelling and entertaining
Revisado: 02-02-23
The story was original and compelling. The author’s immersion into the literary and academic worlds demonstrate her obvious involvement in both. The protagonist was sympathetic, until she wasn’t. This required the listener to understand her motivation in greater depth than if she had been more predictable. Greatly appreciated.
The performance by the reader was terrific.

Revisado: 07-11-22
First of all, I can’t think of a better performance. Ruby Dee! Spectacular!
The story was beautifully constructed. The relationships that molded Janie were sculpted with precision. The definition of love is rarely defined so simply not encompassing such complexity. I so enjoyed this book.

Historia
From her many well-loved novels, Hilma Wolitzer - now 91 years old and at the top of her game - has gained a reputation as one of our best fiction writers. These collected short stories - most of them originally published in magazines including Esquire and the Saturday Evening Post in the 1960s and 1970s, along with a new story that brings her early characters into the present - are evocative of an era that still resonates deeply today.

Historia
Lucy Barton is recovering slowly from what should have been a simple operation. Her mother, to whom she hasn’t spoken for many years, comes to see her. Gentle gossip about people from Lucy’s childhood in Amgash, Illinois, seems to reconnect them, but just below the surface lie the tension and longing that have informed every aspect of Lucy’s life: her escape from her troubled family, her desire to become a writer, her marriage, her love for her two daughters. Knitting this powerful narrative together is the brilliant storytelling voice of Lucy herself.

Great entertainment
Revisado: 04-22-12
What did you love best about First Degree?
The story was fun. The writing was very witty and the performance had me laughing out loud at times.
Would you be willing to try another book from David Rosenfelt? Why or why not?
I did download all his other books after listening to this one! Some were better than others but this one was the best.
What about Grover Gardner’s performance did you like?
He has such good timing! He was truly into the performance. He did a great job on all of the Rosenfelt books. I'd look out for him as a reader in the future.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Certainly didn't make me cry. But the snarky dialog did make me laugh.
Any additional comments?
Lots of fun! Get it!

Historia
The incomparable master of the legal thriller takes us deeper into the labyrinth that is the American justice system, always drawing us in with an irresistible hook, pulling the thread of tension tighter and tighter, and then knocking us out with a conclusion that's never "by the book". Maybe that's why, after more than 20 years of consecutive number-one New York Times best sellers, a new novel by America's favorite storyteller is still a major publishing event.

Good Grisham
Revisado: 04-22-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is basic Grisham and an interesting read - not an outstanding story -but it holds the listeners attention. It was well read.
Would you recommend The Litigators to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes, as a good escape novel.
Which scene was your favorite?
The courtroom scenes are always the most interesting in Grisham. The story is somewhat predictable but good nevertheless.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
This movie would be pretty boring.
Any additional comments?
This is a 'better than some' and worth listening to for a light book that provides good entertainment.

Historia
Balram Halwai is a complicated man. Servant. Philosopher. Entrepreneur. Murderer. Balram tells us the terrible and transfixing story of how he came to be a success in life - having nothing but his own wits to help him along. Through Balram's eyes, we see India as we've never seen it before: the cockroaches and the call centers, the prostitutes and the worshippers, the water buffalo and, trapped in so many kinds of cages that escape is (almost) impossible, the white tiger.
With a charisma as undeniable as it is unexpected, Balram teaches us that religion doesn't create morality and money doesn't solve every problem.

A Dramatic Look at Life in India
Revisado: 04-22-12
Where does The White Tiger rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This ranks right at the top. What a compelling story! It is obviously a work of fiction however the depiction of life in India in modern times is very real.
What did you like best about this story?
The format of the book, written in the first person, put the listener into the story in a particularly engrossing manner.
Which character – as performed by John Lee – was your favorite?
The narrator was the main character and was performed with great authenticity. It was hard to imagine anyone else doing this reading.
If you could take any character from The White Tiger out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Probably none of them. They are not a very appealing group but the picture of the Indian caste system was vividly depicted.
Any additional comments?
I highly recommend this book. It requires a strong stomach at a few points but gives a particularly arresting picture of life in India in modern times.

Not worth the time...
Revisado: 04-22-12
What disappointed you about A Little Night Magic?
The story was so sophomoric. It wasn't even worthy of an escape story as it was too silly.
Has A Little Night Magic turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes.
What three words best describe Amanda Ronconi’s performance?
Enthusiastic, dramatic, sweet.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment. I assumed it would be a light story to listen to that took little real concentration - but it was just too light.
Any additional comments?
I'll stick to historical books and biographies!
