Historia
In their own words they each look back on their shared adventures. Playing music together, riding freight trains, spraying graffiti and stealing records. Walking in one another's footsteps by day and rising up through the city's exploding pub music scene by night. Before We Was We is irreverent, funny and full of character. Just like them.

Madness is Brilliant
Revisado: 08-08-24
Madness is brilliant in this recount of their origins in a story that feels like it was created by Charles Dickens.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Brilliantly written introspective. Everyone should read Spare.
Revisado: 01-19-23
I did not expect Spare to be so brilliantly written and have such nuance. I think it is very brave to tell this story. I think Prince Harry’s honesty, often portraying himself as a damaged individual gives his memoir so much credibility. I’ve heard complaints that the royal family are characterized badly or blamed. I didn’t really think that was so. I did take it as very toxic relationships, sometimes self serving. Anyone who has any interest in a modern day monarchy should read this book. Anyone who has ever felt like a spare should love this book. People will still be inspired by Spare 100 years from now.

Historia
In 1979, the self-titled debut album by the B-52s burst onto the Billboard charts, capturing the imagination of fans and music critics worldwide. The fact that the group had formed in the sleepy southern college town of Athens, Georgia, only increased the fascination. Soon, more Athens bands followed the B-52s into the vanguard of the new American music that would come to be known as "alternative", including R.E.M., who catapulted over the course of the 1980s to the top of the musical mainstream.

I feel like I was there when it happened
Revisado: 01-11-23
This is a great read for anyone who has ever listened to bands like REM, The B-52’s, Love Tractor, Pylon, Squalls… I walked away with new insights and a greater appreciation for so many songs to come out of the Classic city. But even more this is an amazing timepiece that captures the essence of an 80’s subculture. I came of age in a different part of the country loving the Athen’s influences on my generation, but always feeling like I missed out. Cool Town made me feel like I was there. This week I visited Athens and the places seemed hallowed by Hale’s insights and sometimes first hand memories.
