Couldn't get past the narrator's cheesy male voices. If you can't do them, don't try.

Enjoyed the book all the way to the end. Wish there were more Johnna B books on Audible but will be looking for more books read by Mishi.

Historia
“Madison Kate Danvers was murdered tonight.” Those words changed my life, and not for the better. They were wrong, of course. I wasn’t dead. But I was set up. After being charged with a string of offences - and made an example of by my political-minded father - I’m eventually released back into Shadow Grove with one thing on my mind. Hate. Someone is going to pay for derailing my carefully laid-out future. How very convenient that someone just moved into the bedroom down the hall from me.

Horrible
Revisado: 12-03-20
The female narrator mispronounces words which is annoying is that she has short breath. She takes a lot breath at each pause, that is something I could learn to tune out, not what I can't ignore is that she pause on the middle of a sentence breaking up what the author intended so that it often changes the meaning. This causes confusion and I have to try to sort out the author's conveyance to refocus the story.

Historia
Late Victorian London. When James Miller, the most respectable of Scottish businessmen, is pulled, dead, from the Thames, his daughter is drawn into an investigation which reveals a whole world of secrets and corruption. Alongside local detective Culley, Catriona’s search for her father’s killer leads all the way to the tragic truth behind the ghostly legend of The Darkwater Bride and the power of her deadly kiss. The Darkwater Bride combines the genres of the Victorian mystery thriller with the equally classic Victorian mode of the ghostly tale.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 12-02-20
I didn't notice this was a drama when I started this book. It came off to me as an old radio show, many different boxes and sound effects. It was like listening to a play. Very confusing story without being able to see the stage settings. Often trying to figure out what was going on and where.
The heroin was displayed as a headstrong young woman, but she also struck me as being very naive and dense. She was constantly asking questions that the answers to should have been known had she paid better attention.
The only reason I completed the book was to hear the mystery solved since I can't stand things being left undone.

Enjoyed Nina's narrator, not as big on Gray's. Didn't care for writing style, setting descriptions are too wordy.

Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Nice to have an actual thriller again. So many books seem to be listed as thrillers, but turn out to be humdrum. This was definitely not one of those! I finished the book in two days and can't wait to listen to book two. :-)

Good story, narration could improve
Revisado: 02-07-19
It took a bit to get into the story, but once it got going, the storyline was good. There are so many different characters, occurred speaking in first person, but their voices all sounded so similar that it was hard to follow. I would often have to back up and listen again to figure out who was speaking. The other thing, and it is a small thing, but the narrator would occasionally smack while speaking, which I found distracting.
I am thinking I might like the book better as a Kindle version, rather than an Audible one.
