A very satisfying ending
Revisado: 02-26-12
After reading some of the other reviews I was not sure how much I would like this last book. However I knew I had to read it so I would know how the story ended. I am so glad I put the opinion of others aside and read with an open mind to decide for myself if it was a worthy read.
I don't think the book could have ended any other way. This is not a story about sunshine and roses (no pun intended). It is about children forced to pay for the sins of their ancestors. The whole subject of the series is dark and disturbing and if you go into it knowing it is not going to be a feel good story your appreciation of the ending is greatly enhanced.
Katniss is not a super hero she is a teenager who has been physically, emotionally, and mentally abused. She has been put upon a pedestal against her will and expected to know all the answers, when in fact she is just a child trying to make her way in a harsh cruel world.
I like the fact that she doesn't have all the answers, that she breaks down and not always does what is expected. This makes her a much more believable character, much more human. If you pay attention to the personalities of the characters in the story they are all flawed, so it would not fit if she always knew and did the right thing.
This is a story about real people with all their faults, not super heroes, which is what makes the story a much better read.
The story line is dark and tragic and if you are not able to read about bad things happening to children this is not the series you want to read. It is not a feel good story, but it is very thought provoking. It will make you have second thoughts about the state of our world as we know it today.

I could not believe they did it again!
Revisado: 02-26-12
This is an excellent series. Once again I could not stop until I heard the whole thing. My only concerns about the book was the ending. It just dropped off too quickly without much resolution. Which made me immediately have to purchase the last book. I guess that is what the author wanted but since the third book picks up with some time lapsed, I feel a little more resolution could have been given to the characters at the end.
If you read the first one you absolutely have to read the second and then the third...

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

The cup of the World
Revisado: 12-18-06
When I first started reading this book I was anoyed by the slow deliberate reading of the narrator. However after listening for a while I realized that is what makes the story so intriging. Some of the words and terms are not politicly correct fot the time period. Sometimes the details seemed a little much but once I got into the story I was glad of the details and understood why it was necessary.
The story is spellbinding and the narration is flawless. The pauses, of the narrator, make the tension of the storyline greater. I found myself listening for hours at a time. I did not want to turn it off because I had to see what happened next.
It is a very good "listen" and completely intertaining. A really good escape from the everyday.
I highly recommend this book if you are into fantasy.
I intend to read the second book I can only hope it is half as good

Good story, well read , and captivating
Revisado: 08-02-05
I really enjoyed the story. It is always good when the underdog comes out on top. The detail was brillent it read like a movie in my mind. The end was a bit predictable but only because I was rooting for the good guys, and they won in the end. I also enjoyed the Paliden of Souls the sequel. This was a very good start for a series, and the Paliden of Souls left room for a third installment. So I will be looking for something soon.

Intention is generally viewed as a pit-bull kind of determination propelling one to succeed at all costs by never giving up on an inner picture. In this view, an attitude that combines hard work with an indefatigable drive toward excellence is the way to succeed. However, intention is viewed very differently in this audiobook.

After watching his seminar on PBS I could not wait to listen to this book. He has helped me so much come to terms with the death of my husband, I am a transformed person. My family and friends are amazed at how far I have come in such a short time. He helped me to realize that death is not the end of life. I would invite anyone who has any issues they are trying to overcome to listen to any of his books or lectures. He is inspired "in sprite".
