Best narration!
Revisado: 02-22-23
I am a huge PG Wodehouse fan and have read all of his works. Cecil is by far the best narrator especially for the Jeeves books.

Looking back over his life, from schoolboy crushes (on girls and boys) to discovering the power of making people laugh (in the Cambridge Footlights with David Mitchell), and from losing his beloved mother to becoming a husband and father, Robert Webb considers the absurd expectations boys and men have thrust upon them at every stage of life.

Oh god. SOOOOO good!
Revisado: 09-04-17
It's been a long time since I read a book that was entertaining, enlightening, poignant, and a million other complementary adjectives. I am laughing and welling up in equal measure. I have to say, it is very brave of him to include so much personal info from his teenage years. You have to get this book. You will NOT regret it!

Can't get past the Mouth noises & Heavy Breathing
Revisado: 03-26-17
Like the title says, I can't past the heavy sighing and slimy mouth noises. The story is good...I think...but the sounds the narrator makes and the way his microphone picks it up is just too much for me! I dreaded listening to it and kept hoping I would get used to the sounds but ...exaggerated sigh...I just could not.

Historia
Mildred Lathbury is a clergyman's daughter and a mild-mannered spinster in 1950s England. She is one of those excellent women - the smart, supportive, repressed women whom men take for granted. As Mildred gets embroiled in the lives of her new neighbors - anthropologist Helena Napier; Helen's handsome, dashing husband, Rocky; and Julian Malory, the vicar next door - the novel presents a series of snapshots of human life as actually, and pluckily, lived.

Just Perfect.
Revisado: 11-29-16
I don't know what it was about this book that I loved so much! It was a simple narrative of the life of a 30-something spinster in post-war London. It was the first book in a long time where I couldn't wait to get back in my car so I could listen. A lot of reviewers compare her to Jane Austen but Barbara Pym has a writing style that is "easier" than Austen's; there are no huge twists of fate or romantic interludes. "Excellent Women" is unique and I'm glad I didn't miss it.

Not the usual Card novel but perhaps my favorite.

Where does Enchantment rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I read the novel years ago and I really enjoyed the audio version. There were so many parts I had forgotten! I wish there were more stories like this one. It has just the right blend of "fish out of water" and sci-fi!
Which scene was your favorite?
That would give too much away! ;)
Any additional comments?
I personally love time travel novels where the protagonist is shocked by his/her surroundings. This one is a time travel/fish out of water novel with some great twists!

Historia
These 36 lectures tell the remarkable story of a tumultuous thousand-year period in the history of England. Dominated by war, conquest, and the struggle to balance the stability brought by royal power with the rights of the governed, it was a period that put into place the foundation of much of the world we know today. As you journey through this largely chronological narrative you'll see key themes emerge, including the assimilation of successive waves of invaders, the tense relationship between kings and the nobility, and the constant battles over money and taxation.

This course got me hooked on The Great Courses
Revisado: 04-09-15
Would you listen to The Story of Medieval England: From King Arthur to the Tudor Conquest again? Why?
There was such a wealth of information. There were a few points I would have loved more detail on but as a survey class it was perfect.
What did you like best about this story?
She did a great job of painting a mental picture of each time period she covered. There was a nice flow through time.

Historia
In Christopher Moore's ingenious debut novel, we meet one of the most memorably mismatched pairs in the annals of literature. The good-looking one is one-hundred-year-old ex-seminarian and "roads" scholar Travis O'Hearn. The green one is Catch, a demon with a nasty habit of eating most of the people he meets.

Revisado: 04-09-15
What other book might you compare Practical Demonkeeping to and why?
A lot f Christopher Moore's books are comparable to this one. It's not as smart and engaging as "Lamb" but it is a fun, easy listen.
Have you listened to any of Oliver Wyman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I liked Wyman's performance. He did a great job with the voices for the characters and giving them each a unique sound.
Any additional comments?
It's a nice tidy story with some surprises.

Historia
Bertie Wooster, the dimwitted aristocrat with a heart of gold, had best avoid Bumpleigh Hall, but he pays a visit and soon is embroiled in a host of calamitous mishaps. Uncle Percy accuses him of burning down a bungalow; "Stilton" Cheesewright, betrothed to Bertie's ex-fiancée, barely controls his jealous rage; and Boko and Nobby blackmail Bertie into donning Stilton's stolen police uniform. Fortunately, Bertie's imperturbable valet, Jeeves, is nearby to perform a rescue.

I loved every minute of it!
Revisado: 03-05-14
If you could sum up Jeeves in the Morning in three words, what would they be?
Witty, delightful, fun!
What other book might you compare Jeeves in the Morning to and why?
"Three Men and a Dog" has the fast, witty dialogue that is in this book. It is set in Victorian England rather than the twenties, but the same sort of carefree, upper class characters are present.
Have you listened to any of Jonathan Cecil’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Jeeves...don't leave home without him!
Any additional comments?
Jonathan Cecil did an amazing job reading this book! His voices were great and very distinct. I would buy an audio book JUST because he is the reader!
