Ghost story
Revisado: 10-12-23
There is a bit of the supernatural here which is not my thing but I found this book to be ok if a little predictable.

Sean Duffy is back!!
Revisado: 08-27-23
Adrian McKinty is my favorite author and the Sean Duffy series is my favorite series. I came across this series quite by accident here on Audible because I liked the title of the first book. I took a chance and have joined Sean Duffy on this ride that has been really fantastic for me. McKinty writes beautifully setting the scenes with descriptive words that resonate, and Gerard Doyle's narration is, as always, perfect. If you have not read any of this series, start from the first and work your way through. You can read them as stand alone but the whole series is a masterpiece. All I can say is that I want more!! Give me more!! ...and thanks, Adrian. This one came to me at a time when I needed to hear from Sean Duffy (via Gerard Doyle) again.

You need to pay attention but the payoff is worth it. I think that people who thought this story was all over the place just didn’t pay attention. I enjoyed it for a more challenging summer read/listen.

I really enjoyed this book with all of its twists and turns. The reveals were mostly surprising to me. I can suggest this book for people who like thrillers and psychological mysteries.

Terrible Narrator
Revisado: 08-28-20
It was pretty easy to figure out the story and who did it
This wouldn’t have been a terrible problem but the narrator was so bad that it was hard to get through. She is very bad at male voices and also older women are all screechy and the same. It ruined what would have been a mildly distracting easy mystery with an obvious villain.I just can’t recommend this title.

Historia
Nate Beckett has spent his life fighting wildfires instead of the lies and rumors that drove him from his Colorado hometown. His mother begs him to come back now that his father has been released from prison, but it isn’t until he’s sidelined by an injury that he’s forced to return and face his past. But that means facing Brenna, too. Fourteen years ago, Nate was in love with the preacher’s daughter. When Pastor Strickland discovered Brenna defied him to sneak out with Nate, the fight between Strickland and Nate’s drunken dad was loud - and very public.

This is a Religious title.
Revisado: 08-22-20
This is not a bad story but they constantly go into talk about God and their relationship with God. Its a religious title. I dont enjoy that because its intrusive and preachy in the story. It got so intrusive that I had to stop listening....I also figured it out pretty early on so I just gave up. If you like a healthy dose of religious preaching about the character's relationship with God, then this may be for you. If not, then skip it.

Warning This is a preachy Christian book
Revisado: 04-25-13
Every turn of story the actors ask, "is this why God has brought me here" "Is this what God wanted me to do?" Its a Christian title which was not clear to me to begin with. I find that annoying so I gave it one star. I just wanted to warn others.

Adrian McKinty is a splendid writer!
Revisado: 10-21-11
I came across this writer and this series purely by accident whle browsing and reading reviews, and I wasnt so sure that it was my cup of tea. But the excellent narration by Gerard Doyle and the plain spoken prose of Mckinty drew me in to the lives of the characters. Indeed, Mckinty tells some pretty gritty stories, and the Michael Forsythe character is by turns smart, reckless, and just plain lucky that he makes it through so many near death experiences...it can become unbelievable that this guy continues to ge tout of jams the way he does.... but then Mckinty's descriptive passages take my breath away and set a scene so swell; they are not fancy or over the top, but vivid in a way that offsets the harsh reality of the lives he is tracking. There is also an intelligence and insight here that is rather rare.
I consider McKinty to be among one of the great writers...and I have read the canon and then some, including much contemporary lit....this is above and beyond, and I strongly suggest it to anyone (adult...there are some pretty serious themes and also some pretty strong violent images)
I've been thrilled to find that there are more books in this series and some other books that he has written (though I am unsure about the series for the younger set, I will listen to it) and I love this narrator to the point that I have searched out other books that he has narrated.
