Very clear. Pretty useful.
Revisado: 03-21-24
The book is very clearly written—and very clearly read as well. Although there’s not much new, I found it interesting and very informative to hear how an outstanding investor thought through a number of situations. Kudos to the author for being helpful, sincere, and direct.

All highly profitable firms attract competitors, and only firms that are able to keep competition at bay will earn above average profits for an extended period of time. An economic moat - or competitive advantage - allows a company to fend off competitors and earn sustainable, excess economic profits.

Excellent, concise book
Revisado: 02-25-24
Pretty good as a first or second book on investing. Concise. There are other ways to invest successfully, but Dorsey’s general approach works and this book serves as a good introduction to it.

Through chapter 6, there is nothing worthwhile
Revisado: 03-21-23
It’s just a listing of some cases where stocks went up 100x. No reasons why. No real analysis. Extremely boring waste of time. To be fair to the reader, he did a good job with the poor book.

Historia
Technological change is reshaping the economy in a way not witnessed since Henry Ford introduced the assembly line. A little more than ten years ago, only two of the ten most valuable publicly traded companies in the world were digital enterprises—today, they comprise eight of the top ten. Investors around the world are struggling to understand the Digital Age and how they can use the stock market to profit from it.

Chapter 1 is pretty bad
Revisado: 03-13-23
Chapter 1 is pretty bad: it drones on about anecdotes of technology riches with little data, makes sweeping generalizations about age groups, and doesn’t even understand the basic Coca-Cola (ticker KO) business model, which it uses as an example. Except for a restructuring period, the bottlers are mostly NOT “subsidiaries,” they are separate businesses. I really wanted to like this book, but the first chapter really makes me question the competence of the author. Disappointed that I bought the book.

Historia
Michael Porter’s groundbreaking ideas on competition and strategy have unfolded over three decades and are spread across a dauntingly long list of publications. Every manager can name individual pieces of his work - competitive advantage, the value chain, five forces - but no one, not even Porter himself, has put the entire puzzle together to reveal it as an integrated whole. This lucid, concise audiobook does just that. This book provides an engaging summary of Porter’s ideas and an invaluable synthesis of this important body of work....

Historia
The concept of quality is familiar. People make judgments about it every day. Yet articulating a clear definition of quality is challenging. The best companies often appear to be characterized by an ineffable something, much like that of people who seem graced by a lucky gene. For reasons that are not always evident, some do the right things with better results than average. They may not appear to be savvier acquirers, more adept marketers, or bolder pioneers, yet they integrate new businesses better, launch products more successfully, and open new markets with fewer mishaps.

Good book, mediocre reading
Revisado: 10-01-22
It’s a pretty good book, many good ideas, although it could have been somewhat better organized. The audio book format was poor in that it seemed hastily read, which made it unnecessarily difficult to follow at times, despite the content not being difficult. The reading emphasis was frequently off and there was mispronouncing due to apparent haste. IMO the audio should be redone. The book deserves better.
