Great narrator
Revisado: 12-13-24
One of the best narrator performances of any book I’ve read. Absolutely amazing and captivating story, but the narrator makes it that much stronger

Historia
Since they were lured to the festival at Carousel, Riley (the Film Buff), Antoine (the Athlete), Camden (the Scholar), Anna (the Final Girl), and Kimberly (the Eye Candy) have lived through entire horror movie plots. So far, Riley's survival strategy is working. He's high on his Moxie, Hustle, and Savvy stats. But his Mettle and Grit have dropped dangerously low, leaving him vulnerable. If he gets caught by a killer, he's done for.

Historia
A young man lives among the trees of a primeval forest, raised by a wizened old sage and friend to the faeries and spirits of his home. He bears only half a name—Lien, an ancient word meaning "blade" or "edge"—and no knowledge of his heritage. As he grows, so too does his need for independence and answers. Thus, he begins his adventure, seeking a shattered sword and the truth behind the mysterious mark on his right hand.

Too much exposition
Revisado: 09-17-23
The exposition is *somewhat* required for the narrative style, but there’s still wayyyyu too much of. I like the story though, and am hoping the next book cuts down on the exposition quite a bit since the world was established in this book.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Fantastic!
Revisado: 05-03-23
Honestly I don’t know what to say other than it was great. Took some tropes and turned some of them on their head and kept others. Kept me on my toes the whole time. Can’t wait for book 2

Narrator has no variation
Revisado: 08-09-21
I had to switch to a physical book. I was enjoying the story but the narrator has almost no variation between different characters, or even between dialog and the story in general. I was constantly getting mixed up about who was talking or whose POV it currently was.

Historia
With this outrageous new novel, China Miéville has written one of the strangest, funniest, and flat-out scariest books you will read this—or any other—year. The London that comes to life in Kraken is a weird metropolis awash in secret currents of myth and magic, where criminals, police, cultists, and wizards are locked in a war to bring about—or prevent—the End of All Things.

Narrator is Insufferable
Revisado: 09-06-16
Would you listen to Kraken again? Why?
No, the book is great. I own a physical copy. I've struggled to make it 15% of the way into the audiobook. The narrator doesnt do voices well and sounds very stiff.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of John Lee?
Yes. I think this would solve my main issue with this book.
