Incredible story
Revisado: 06-13-24
This story had me hooked from the beginning. It was a roller coaster of a tale. I loved every twist and turn along the way.
Bennett is a great storyteller with a passion for bringing historical periods to life.
The performer for the Audiobook was excellent as well.

Historia
Paul Bäumer is just 19 years old when he and his classmates enlist. They are Germany’s Iron Youth who enter the war with high ideals and leave it disillusioned or dead. As Paul struggles with the realities of the man he has become, and the world to which he must return, he is led like a ghost of his former self into the war’s final hours. All Quiet is one of the greatest war novels of all time, an eloquent expression of the futility, hopelessness and irreparable losses of war.

With an original voice that combines fearless curiosity and mordant wit, Caitlin tells an unusual coming-of-age story full of bizarre encounters, gallows humor, and vivid characters (both living and very dead).

Historia
Craig Ferguson has defied the odds his entire life. He has failed when he should have succeeded and succeeded when he should have failed. The fact that he is neither dead nor in a locked facility (at the time of printing) is something of a miracle in itself. In Craig’s candid and revealing memoir, listeners will get a look into the mind and recollections of the unique and twisted Scottish American who became a national hero for pioneering the world’s first TV robot skeleton sidekick and reviving two dudes in a horse suit dancing as a form of entertainment.

Very inspiring
Revisado: 01-20-21
I adore Craig Ferguson. I loved this candid memoir of his life. I loved American On Purpose as well, but this one is more recent and digs deeper. The way he strings together memorable moments, life lessons, poetry, and both fiction and nonfiction is brilliant and beautiful. It makes you feel happy, sad, and everything in between but leaves you ultimately inspired.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

Good start but disappointing end
Revisado: 07-27-16
Spoiler alert...
I thought it started out great. I was drawn into the story. The main character was especially strong to start out with. I thought this was a strong feminist story. She stepped in to help the friend who murdered her husband in what could be considered self-defense. She fends off a possible would-be rapist and handles his continuing advances with assertivness. We learn of her past in a company where she was repeatedly dismissed and passed over for being a female. We see her taking extreme measures in protecting herself.
She is very smart and picks up quickly when she is being stalked by a serial killer. We see her willing to do whatever it takes to get away from him. Then he catches her, rapes and tortures her, she fights him, stabs him, then at a moment I expected a strong woman overcoming her foe, she instead falls in love with him and regrets defending herself. It was out of character and very disappointing.
