Mention of the word GOD, while describing ATOM ?!!

The mention of the word GOD, while describing the creation of ATOM surprises me. I was looking for a scientific and not a theological explanation from this "Physical Science" audiobook. Why bother explaining scientifically, when all can be assumed through the 'magical touch' by the long-gray-bearded-man up in the sky.

e.g. Ian fails to mention the reason why the Earth revolves eliptically around the Sun and not in a perfect 'circle'. Secondly, why and how did the Earth's core gets molten metal core from dust particals that were chilled due to extremely low temperature in space during accretionary formation of our Solar system.
