This is the first romantasy that had me completely ensnared in a long time. I finished this audio book in 2 days. The narrators were amazing, probably the best I’ve ever listened to.

Interesting magic, interesting world and unique MC. I found the FMC to be a bit ridiculous at times, especially in her need for compliments.

Not worth paying for - Publisher/Editors dropped the ball.

I came into this book with no expectations but excited to read the third installment of this series. Without leaving spoilers - This was so terribly edited. POVs switch multiple times within a chapter with no warning. On audio, it is like whiplash and often feels like the text is head hopping. This book could have cut 2 POVs out without any change to the storyline. The lead character has become a carbon copy of a different character from a different series by the same author, and not done nearly as well. There are multiple, gaping plot holes, continuity errors and storylines that were far, far longer than needed to be causing weird pacing issues. 1 character carried this entire novel and it’s not the lead character. Overall I DNF at the 80% mark and read spoilers online, most of which complained the ending battle was too easy which from what I read seemed exactly where it was going. I don’t regret not finishing it, and won’t be picking up another book by this author without waiting for months of reviews first.

This could have been great, but the editing was clearly mishandled. It did not need to be 800 pages.

Narrator was awesome as usual and breathed life into an otherwise terribly edited book.

I thought this was an excellent follow up for the first book, Only Bad Options and I’m looking forward to the next in the series. Jennifer Estep is quickly earning a favorite spot on my bookshelf! I loved all the narrators, but a special call out to the addition of Max Roll for Zane! Can’t wait for Zane’s story!!

Fantastic performance

What amazing narrators! Great ranges in both of them. The story itself was fun and intriguing. Enemies to lovers, kidnapping and great caretaking tropes.

Narration recording is so weird!

I don’t like to leave bad reviews. I went to the website of the audiobook narrator and she sounds way better in her samples then what this recording is. She drops her voice at the end of every sentence but it’s very pronounced and jilting in this recording. I bought this because reviewers said the new narrator is better, but I just couldn’t get through it. The sample shows a bit, but it’s the LI’s voice and the whiny way the FMC talks later on that I wasn’t able to get passed.

Good story

I really wanted to just love this story but it was hard to get through. The spice is light but very well done. The story line was great. I think the prose just had too much description which bogged down the pacing and lowered the tension making it easy to put down.

I have been hearing about this book for so long and have avoided it because the blurb and cover are so awful. I was finally convinced to give it a try and I’m so glad I did. I love it! Lots of world building, a magic system, and the romance is so real! I love Nevada and her pragmatism and can’t wait for book 2!!!

An actual strong female lead.

These books don’t get near the praise they deserve. Lara is a heroine who makes poor choices and then has to actually deal with the consequences. She’s not brash/rude/arrogant and doesn’t bully her way through things. She has actual discourse with other characters. She falters and needs help as does the male lead. The story was great and had me hooked through the end. Wish there was more like this!
