I did not like this novel much, it was written like a robot was the one who wrote it. it is as if someone who speaks english as their second language wrote it or it was translated from a different language.

I can't really say more because getting beyond 5 chapters was a herculean feat. I could just sensitive to tone and prose.

C Grade action movie in literary form

1st sorry for the bad review. Usually I'd rather not leave a review before writing a bad one. My tastes don't reflect everyone's so if I don't like it, that doesn't mean it's bad; it just means I don't like it. But...

This book is bad. No one will convince me otherwise.

The characters from the movie Terminator had more engaging dialog than those in this book.
Scooby Doo and the Gang had more intricate plot sequences.
Count from Sesame Street has a deeper magic system. And
A stick figure drawing stuck to the paper on your shoe has more nuance and depth than the main character.

Please. Buy this book as a study of how not to tell a story.

The story's concept was great. It's execution on the other hand...

I like the characters but the story is somewhat predictable. As the story progressed, there was nothing interesting/surprising in the plot. Overall it wasn't bad but it could have been more interesting.

Okay story. Good action. Needs deeper characters.

The story is okay so far. I like the action sequences. Not much new in the plat but it's written (and narrated) enjoyably so that's okay. But...

I wish the characters had more personal growth. As in not just increasing their power but understanding the nuances of their abilities and/or coming up with creative ways to use their abilities. For example, the main character has heavy armor. Using it to somehow trap and pin down foes then inflicting damage would be a nice trap. Or using ash to choke enemies would be great. Or characters figuring out new combinations of abilities in a team setting would make the fights more compelling.

But I'm willing to see where the story goes from here. Hopefully it'll get more interesting.

Great start to a new series

I will not give any spoilers in this review. That being said...

The captain's origin story is solid.
The crew each have strong personalities and can stand on their own.
The enemy is a proper full blown evil bag guy.
And there's enough subplot and intrigue that this series can go in any number of directions.

All said, this is a solid start to a new series. Worth the read. I want the next book.

Very enjoyable series so far. I like the way the plot combines martial arts, personal struggles, a detailed magic system. Ĺooking forward to seeing the protagonist overcoming their unwanted visitor.
