Historia
An unexpected inheritance has gifted me with the dream of a lifetime—owning a charming bookshop in small-town Scotland. Little did I know this gift comes with a surprise—Highland Hearts bookshop has been running an underground magical matchmaking service—and as new owner of the shop, I am expected to deliver on these matches. As Christmas looms, and lonely hearts beg for love, I’m tossed into the world of magic and romance, aided by a meddling book club who seems more interested in romance than reading. The problem is—I just don’t believe in love. Or so I thought.

Narration Ruined This
Revisado: 01-03-25
The book seemed cute but the narration absolutely ruined it for me. The female narrator sounds like AI and the male narrator sounds very muffled. I’m so bummed because this could’ve been a good read, but I simply cannot finish it.

Historia
One week with one little girl—an angel, according to my staffing agency. Acting as the short-term nanny for a single dad should have been an easy way to make some extra cash. Until I show up for my first day and face off with a demon disguised as a seven-year-old girl wearing a red tutu and matching glitter slippers. Oh, and her father? My temporary boss? Maddox Holiday. The same Maddox Holiday I crushed on in high school. The same Maddox Holiday who didn’t even know I existed.

This book is garbage. Paid too much even at $0.
Revisado: 01-02-25
If you want to read a book where women are demonized for having an identity outside of mother/caretaker, this book may be for you. This book is definitely written through the male gaze and 100% does not pass Bechdel test *as a book written for women*!
In chapter 2, the very first chapter from the MMC’s point of view, there is legitimately a point where he claims she was a gold digger, even though they both got married and she bore his child extremely young and he “made” her sign a prenup. Then, in a conversation with another man, one says she posted a picture of herself on the beach on social media and the other guy says yeah that is so like her. Like, what??? How dare she post what she wants on her own social media, enjoy time on the beach, post a picture of her post-baby body in a swimsuit - all while be a -gasp- MOTHER?!? How dare she. Then he proceeds to tear her down for wanting 50-50 custody of their daughter. As if wanting to share the responsibility for the child *they created together* is ridiculous simply because she’s a woman. Whatever. And that’s just Chapter 2.
Chapter 1 is mainly the MFC being a pushover, violating her own boundaries, and her inner dialogue about the MMC that sounds like a 12-year-old instead of a grown woman.
The narration was great - no notes. I will look for good books narrated by them.
Summed up, This book is stupid. I got it for free and I still paid too much given that I invested my time in reading any of it.

Social media influencer and podcast host April Ajoy wouldn’t have called herself a Christian Nationalist when she performed her original song “America Say Jesus” on the Jim Bakker show, or when she participated in Jesus Marches across America, or when she posted cringe-worthy videos on YouTube to campaign for Mitt Romney. April just considered herself a good Christian: faithful, Republican, and determined to make America a Christian nation once again.

Read This Book, You’ll Be Glad You Did
Revisado: 11-01-24
I am so thankful that this book and others like it, wherein women tell the story of their recovery from the damaging effects of “Christianity”/ Christian Nationalism, are being published, read, and shared. In this book, April shares her story and truths about Christian Nationalism in a way that is accessible to folks who well know it effects and those who are on the cusp of understanding the water they swim in.
Thank you April for speaking out in videos and for your courage in writing this book. In it, I hear a willingness to be vulnerable and to use your voice to speak truth, even while knowing that your process of divestment is ongoing. Sorting it all out takes time.
While the effects of Christian nationalism most profoundly affect those with less privilege from marginalized and minoritized communities, it hurts everyone. While necessary and ultimately life-saving, the process of leaving can be terrifying, isolating, and often dangerous. Staying would be catastrophic, but leaving often feels impossible. Knowing that we are not alone goes a long way toward supporting those who continue to be harmed by this toxic rhetoric and behavior. Content like this provides connection and community support for those who can and choose to divest, heal, and live authentically. The process continues individually, but also in society as a whole, as we witness others’ stories of courage and healing and acknowledge that while anyone is oppressed, we all are.
Thank you again for your work. Keep it up. You’re doing great.

Cute Read!
Revisado: 10-31-24
Spicy and fun with some sweetness and depth mixed in! Quick and easy read!
The narration was great for the MMC. The person who narrates the MFC pronounces “G”s at the end of words as “N”s and it was like nails on the chalkboard the whole time - Eg. “Happening” = “Happeneen”. Their voice wasn’t pleasant to my ears, but they are clearly good at their job overall. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, I finished the entire book, and likely will not be an issue for anyone else!

Historia
Sage Byrd has lived in the coastal town of Spunes, Oregon (not to be confused with Forks, Washington) her entire life. She's learned to love her small world, with the misfit animals on her hobby farm, and her friendships with the town’s inhabitants. But when her 5-year relationship ends and her ex, town-golden-boy Ian, suddenly gets engaged, Sage needs a win—something that will convince everyone to stop pitying her all the time, and to put Ian in his place. The Festival of Spunes, the town’s annual summer competition, would be the perfect opportunity. She just needs a partner.

Historia
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Sweet, closed-door romance with a fun mystery element. Well-paced, likable and well-rounded characters. Misunderstandings with quick resolution by adults who behave like adults. Best of all, a book written by an author with social awareness. Great narration.

My boss Elliot Levy is intolerable, and I tell him so every day...in the little notes I write and then hide in the back of my desk. I can't exactly say to his face that I'm convinced he's a cyborg, considering I'm about to become a single mother, and I really need to keep my job as his assistant. Elliot never looks at me, so he doesn't even notice I'm pregnant until I'm seven months along. The first thing he asks is if I'm planning to come back to work once I have the baby.

Couldn’t finish this one. The FMC was portrayed as ridiculously feeble and made decisions like a teenager, not a grown woman. The MMC was weird and unlikeable. The dialogue seemed forced and unnatural. The writing was otherwise a little choppy but fine, but the action was just way too slow. There was a whole chapter with several different conversations with different people over the size of a piece of paper.
The narration was pretty good, not great.

Three years ago, Jacob Price walked away. After a whirlwind steamy affair, my father's best friend broke my heart. He told me things were too complicated. Messy. Wrong. That we could never be together. I knew he loved me, but the fear of ruining our family was too great. With too much at stake, he sacrificed our hearts and ended it. Now, he's back, and he still wants me. He still loves me. But now, I'm engaged to another man.

Fun read, lots of spice, good read if you can get past the narrator for FMC
Revisado: 10-02-24
Moves along at a pretty good clip, lots of spice, a bit unrealistic but that’s pretty common in this trope, the main characters were a bit unlikeable given how they act, the narrator for the FMC was like nails on a chalkboard and I almost couldn’t get through, very nasally and whiny, the MMC narrator was great

Historia
Ali Morris is a professional organizer whose own life is a mess. Her mom died two years ago, then her husband left, and she hasn’t worn pants with a zipper in longer than she cares to remember. No one is more surprised than Ali when the first time she takes off her wedding ring and puts on pants with hardware—overalls count, right?—she meets someone. Or rather, her dog claims a man for her, in the same way he claimed his favorite of her three children: by peeing on him. Ethan smiles at Ali like her pants are just right—like he likes what he sees.

Historia
Fern Brookbanks has wasted far too much of her adult life thinking about Will Baxter. She spent just twenty-four hours in her early twenties with the aggravatingly attractive, idealistic artist, a chance encounter that spiraled into a daylong adventure in the city. The timing was wrong, but their connection was undeniable: they shared every secret, every dream, and made a pact to meet one year later. Fern showed up. Will didn’t.

It was cute, a fine read
Revisado: 07-16-24
For the most part, an easy read – with the exception of it sometimes being a little difficult to tell which time the chapter was set in. I thought I had missed a major action build-up in the story, but it seems there just wasn’t one. I honestly still don’t understand why the main characters couldn’t be together in the first place. It read a bit more like a YA novel than one for adults. All in all, it was a cute easy read that would work great as a palate cleanser between heavy books or for something lighthearted and easy to listen to while doing other things.
