Historia
Anthony Fauci is arguably the most famous–and most revered–doctor in the world today. His role guiding America sanely and calmly through Covid (and through the torrents of Trump) earned him the trust of millions during one of the most terrifying periods in modern American history, but this was only the most recent of the global epidemics in which Dr. Fauci played a major role. His crucial role in researching HIV and bringing AIDS into sympathetic public view and his leadership in navigating the Ebola, SARS, West Nile, and anthrax crises, make him truly an American hero.

Amazing story
Revisado: 06-26-24
Dr. Fauci has had an extraordinary life experience. Sort of like Forrest Gump – you can find him in the picture during any major health crisis in the world that has happened in the last half century. He has made the term “public servant” a badge of honor. Hopefully, there are many young people interested in following his lead.

A story that needed telling
Revisado: 06-05-24
Could not put it down! Outstanding narration made the story come alive. if you look in history books, women are often missing unless they are married to somebody important. My father was in World War II and Vietnam and never shared any stories of either conflict with the family, “soldiering on” for 32 years. Everything I have learned about those wars has been from books or movies. Thank you for bringing out this fabulous story about the critical contribution of women during the Vietnam war.

Historia
On July 12th, 1776, Captain James Cook, already lionized as the greatest explorer in British history, set off on his third voyage in his ship the HMS Resolution. Two-and-a-half years later, on a beach on the island of Hawaii, Cook was killed in a conflict with native Hawaiians. How did Cook, who was unique among captains for his respect for Indigenous peoples and cultures, come to that fatal moment? Hampton Sides’ bravura account of Cook’s last journey both wrestles with Cook’s legacy and provides a thrilling narrative of the titanic efforts and continual danger that characterized exploration.

What a story! I listened to the whole thing every spare minute over 2-1/2 days. It was as engrossing as a spy thriller.

Historia
Few figures in American politics have seen more and said less than Mitt Romney. An outspoken dissident in Donald Trump’s GOP, he has made headlines in recent years for standing alone against the forces he believes are poisoning the party he once led. Romney was the first senator in history to vote to remove from office a president of his own party. When that president’s supporters went on to storm the US Capitol, Romney delivered a thundering speech from the Senate floor accusing his fellow Republicans of stoking insurrection.

A window to a fascinating American
Revisado: 10-26-23
It is fortunate that Romney decided he might not be objective if he were to write his memoir himself. Coppins has done a great job presenting the real Romney, warts and all.
I never voted for him but I respect him as a fine human being, with a deep sense of service and love for this country. Wish we could clone him!
I listened to the book almost straight through. The narrator is excellent.

Listened almost straight through. At first I thought a narrator would’ve been better, but then realized that listening to the authentic voice behind the words was important. A brave young lady.

Historia
The forest of Broceliande, with its picturesque lakes and castles, is the last remnant of the fairy kingdom, if Breton lore is to be believed. Innumerable legends spanning thousands of years are set here, including the tale of King Arthur and the Round Table. It seems to be an appropriate destination for Commissaire Dupin and his team to take a late summer field trip. But when the body of a historian turns up, Dupin is called upon to investigate in the brutal murder case. Before too long, there are more victims.

Narration was fine, Story dragged.
Revisado: 03-11-23
Graham Halstead did a good job with the narration. While I enjoyed Jean Brassard’s narration in an earlier book, I think readers with no background in French. I have found it a little, frustrating to understand names, and places. Unlike the rest of the series, which I have enjoyed, this book seemed to drag, I kept wishing for it to “get on with it.”
