Historia
Buckhead isn’t a place you live, it’s a place you survive. And that applies even to the wealthy housewives that have it all. Fancy cars, designer clothes, and daily salon appointments aren’t nearly enough to keep them fulfilled and happy. Because in this town, privilege and opulence go hand in hand with betrayal and revenge. Jenny, the owner of Glow, an exclusive membership-only beauty salon, knows that better than anyone, because she knows everything about these housewives—down to each individual strand of hair.

Amazing Ending…if you can make it there
Revisado: 06-07-23
I was really excited to try a Jeneva Rose book bc she’s a fellow Chicagoan and the reviews for all of her books are really good. Plus, I love her Instagram humor. But I’m truly baffled by this book. The beginning draws you in, the characters are interesting enough and the drama is enticing. But the middle not only drags on but the characters become caricatures. Their behaviors becoming so exaggerated and unrealistic, it’s hard to keep reading. I almost added it to my DNF list but since so many reviews said the ending was incredible, I soldiered on. Sure enough, in the last hour of the book, the author pulls off this really intricate, smart and fascinating ending. I think a little more editing could have gone a long way.

Historia
Nora McInerny does not dance like no one is watching. In fact, she dances like everyone is watching, which is to say, she does not dance at all. As a best-selling author and host of the beloved podcast Terrible, Thanks for Asking, she has captured the hearts of millions by discussing grief and loss with wit and warmth. Now, with Bad Vibes Only, she turns her eye on our aggressively, oppressively optimistic culture, our obsession with self-improvement, and what it really means to live our lives online.

Brave and Thought-Provoking
Revisado: 10-16-22
Nora can tap into the darkest parts of life and pull out a story that makes people feel seen. “Anything Can Happen” was by far one of the most brave and validating stories I’ve ever read. While that exact scenario has not happened to me, other “we were this close to tragedy” moments have and I cannot commend her enough for sharing it. I felt less shameful after reading it. Shining light on shame is the only way to eradicate it.
What I love most about Nora is her ability to own her privilege and her traumas. She allows them to come together and make me ponder things beyond the day to day grind. While simultaneously giving the day to day grind it’s fair share of praise.
There was so much beautiful duality in this book. And both. The only way to truly live.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Captivating and Vulnerable
Revisado: 10-08-22
As someone with a complicated relationship with my mom, this book resonated deeply with me. I applaud Jennette for her honest and raw account of her life so far. Other generational cycle breakers will heal from her words and that’s a priceless gift. I cannot wait for her next book.
