Historia
Stolen is the true story of one survivor who escaped - more than once. First recruited while staying with her family at a hotel in Miami Beach, Katariina Rosenblatt was already a lonely and abused young girl who was yearning to be loved. She fell into the hands of a confident young woman who pretended friendship but slowly lured her into a child prostitution ring. For years afterward, a cycle of false friendship, threats, drugs, and violence kept her trapped.

Vital information to keep our daughters safe & compassionately see & love victims!
Revisado: 10-26-24
While I am aware that human trafficking is happening here in America, I learned so much about the methods traffickers use to profile & entice victims. I also learned a lot about the types of kids that are most vulnerable. If we would all become more aware, begin to keep our eyes open for this type of activity & be willing to stand up for the vulnerable, what a difference we could make!

Historia
In 1993, Andrew Brunson was asked to travel to Turkey, the largest unevangelized country in the world, to serve as a missionary. Though hesitant because of the daunting and dangerous task that lay ahead, Andrew and his wife, Norine, believed this was God's plan for them. What followed was a string of threats and attacks, but also successes in starting new churches in a place where many people had never met a Christian. As their work with refugees from Syria, gained attention and suspicion, Andrew and Norine acknowledged the threat but accepted the risk.

So encouraging!! (but professional reader would improve listening experience)
Revisado: 07-18-24
I loved the authenticity of Andrew Brunson’s account of his imprisonment for Christ in Turkey. I’ve been “imprisoned” in my own home for many years by a painful chronic illness. I could so identify with Brunson’s honest sharing about wrestling with God—at times feeling abandoned, confused by God’s silence, depressed, fearful, anxious—and working through all of these to surrender. I also have been carried many times by “unfelt grace.” I am so encouraged by this brother in Christ’s story, in how he kept his face turned toward Jesus in much trembling and weakness.
I do think this book could be improved by a professional reader. Brunson’s delivery is a bit slow and hard to get into.

Hearing God's call to serve as a missionary in the French-speaking world, Joe Portale responded with excitement, boldness, and humility. His lifelong dreams were being fulfilled, and the land God had promised was within reach. But the journey was not easy. From spiritual forces in France to the perilous Sahara desert to war and poverty in Southeast Asia, Joe and his ministry team persevered through many challenges. Their successes and failures provide a roadmap for all who would respond to God's call, an instructive account of pursuing one's life vocation and ministry.

I really enjoyed learning from a more experienced believer more about the ways God works. Joe not only shares exciting stories and miracles from his lifelong walk with God, he also writes about his struggles and questions. I appreciated this so much!

Once a person hikes a long trail, they catch the bug, but does it get any easier the second time around? Four years after starting the Appalachian Trail with his brother, Brian takes to the Continental Divide Trail for his second thru-hike in familiar company. However, trail life is not always as rewarding and romantic as the pictures you see or second-hand stories you hear.

Better reader would have helped
Revisado: 07-03-24
I love listening to trail books, and picked up this one because there aren’t many audiobooks about the CDT. Right from the beginning I struggled. The reader has a bit of a sing song quality and reads every sentence with almost the same pitch. This doesn’t help the writing, which is not very dynamic. Unfortunately, Cornell has an obsession with bodily functions. His mom will be glad to know that he stays well hydrated and is never constipated on the trail! He also comes across as a bit preachy at times—going on about the evils of cars—and extolling the worn cliche that you can do anything you put your mind to. I’d like to see someone with a chronic illness like I live with walk the CDT—most of the time I can’t even leave my house without excruciating pain! That said, I’m still glad I stuck with this book. It was worthwhile to “experience” a new trail—and I really liked Cornell’s perspective that every person is an interesting book just waiting to be read.

"It took months of God waking me up in the middle of the night before I realized I was the one He was calling to leave my comfortable American life and move to Haiti." Miracle on Voodoo Mountain is the inspirational memoir of an accomplished and driven 24-year-old who quit her job, sold everything, and moved to Haiti, by herself - all without a clear plan of action. Megan Boudreaux had visited Haiti on a few humanitarian trips but each trip multiplied the sense that someone needed to address the devastation.

Beautiful and Challenging
Revisado: 01-11-24
I didn’t want to put this audiobook down. It caught my attention from the first page. Such a powerful example of how one person dedicated to obeying Jesus really can make a difference for many vulnerable and hurting children! I also found this book challenged me as an American Christian not to be lazy, to be careful that my giving is really helping and not hurting others.

Timely & beautiful story
Revisado: 11-04-23
Brother Nathan’s story shows how God works even the most difficult & tragic circumstances of our lives together for good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28). I so enjoyed his gentle, humble spirit throughout this book. I could just feel his love for God and people radiating through the pages. Brother Nathan’s account of reconciliation and love between Jews, Arabs and Christians of other nationalities is also so timely in light of current world events. Jesus truly is the only true source of peace and reconciliation.

Moving story, Not my favorite readers
Revisado: 11-03-23
I found Kent & Amber Brantly’s story to be well-written, thoughtful and spiritually compelling. It’s a difficult book because of the topic, but handled with sensitivity and compassion. I was drawn into the story enough to put up with my annoyance with the readers. Kaleo Griffith has a great voice but reads REALLY slowly with frequent LONG pauses. I don’t enjoy Sarah Zimmerman’s reading generally as she has a bit of a sing song thing going on. It’s not as bad in this book as some others I’ve heard.

Historia
On the night of November 5, 2006, the Barrick family was driving home from church when their van was struck by a drunk driver. Fifteen-year-old Jen suffered multiple skull fractures and severe brain trauma and was not expected to survive the night. But against all odds, she did. As she lingered in a coma, doctors warned that if Jen ever woke up, she would be cursing and screaming in confusion due to her brain injuries. Instead, after five weeks she opened her eyes and began praying and praising God.

Beautiful and encouraging
Revisado: 11-02-23
I don’t suffer from a brain injury but have experienced 17 years of 24 hour pain and disability from continuous daily migraine headaches. Jen’s simple faith and her trust in God’s goodness and perfect plan are so beautiful! I also appreciated how Linda Barrett shared honestly about her own struggles with faith, discouragement, and the unfairness of all that happened to their family. It was instructive to see how she continuously spoke God’s Word, and battled for her family through prayer. One thing that might be difficult for some readers who are struggling is the amount of support this family received from their friends, church and community . On one hand, this is the way the body of Christ is supposed to function. On the other, not many of us have dozens of people lining up to stay with us, clean our house, provide meals for months, and meet our every need when we’re hit with tragic life altering circumstances.

Amazing & Inspiring story but writing could have been better
Revisado: 08-08-23
The writer has such an inspiring story and attitude. I found it encouraging to see how he kept turning to God in spite of all the tragedies and trials he faced and continues to face in his life. However, I feel that the book could have been written better—especially the second half of the story. It felt like chapters of a lot of telling instead of showing. And to be honest the years of his doing physical therapy and long process of becoming a doctor were not very interesting reading. I wanted to hear more stories of interactions with individuals patients and how his unique perspective and gifts impacted their lives.

Revisado: 07-19-23
I was deeply encouraged by the Burnham’s story—and especially appreciated how Gracia shared their oh so human weaknesses of body, emotion and spirit. Although I am not a physical captive, their struggle encourages me to keep looking to the grace of our good God in my own daily struggle with disability and pain.
