I’ve read many other Jennifer Weiner books and had looked forward to this new one. I was very disappointed. The only character I really liked was Harold Jefferson. Otherwise I really couldn’t relate to Jo and Bethie other than that we are women and mothers. I didn’t like either of them. I didn’t like any of the topics covered in this book and found myself cringing frequently. I can’t think of anyone I would recommend this book to read.

At first I thought I might've read this one before because it starts like Nothing to Lose with Reacher planning to go from Maine to California. He doesn't get too far before seeing a sign for Laconia NH where he recalls his father grew up. Figuring he can spare a day to check it out, Reacher has another adventure that is running parallel to another story involving Patty and Shorty. There were so many little details about this book that I really enjoyed. Part of it did feel like a psychological thriller. If I'm ever in a jam, I hope Reacher happens by to help me.

This was an interesting read because it was told in Reacher's first person account. It really made him seem more vulnerable and humble as he admitted when he made mistakes. The other thing that made it different from other books was that Reacher wore a watch. Anyone who knows Reacher knows that he has a precise internal clock and never usually wears a watch. There are two plots happening simultaneously in this book - one has to do with a kid who is nearly kidnapped and the other is from 10 years ago in Reacher's past. There were some parts that really stressed me out, but per usual Reacher resolved all issues.

Reacher is making his way from Maine on a diagonal to San Diego. After being in Kansas and stopping in Hope, CO, he crosses into Despair, CO. All he wants is a cup of coffee at the local diner. When the townsfolk run him out of town, of course Reacher's curiosity is aroused. Plus, Reacher does not like to go back. He's determined to get through Despair. There are many mysteries to be solved in this book - what's up with Vaughn, what's happening at the plant, why do people stay in a miserable place like Despair, who are the women who keep appearing? Per usual, Reacher figures out all of the answers.

I was a little concerned when I first started this book. It is very long, there are many characters, and it jumps around from the early 1930s to 2003. I had nothing to worry about. I LOVED this book (and I can see why Dorothy loved it, too). I loved the many mysteries that needed to be unraveled. I loved meeting the characters and figuring out how they were related. I loved that Eleanor just wanted to be Eleanor and not Mother. I loved the way everything is answered in the end - great symmetry as well as not leaving me hanging on any details. I loved the way there were theories and then the story explained from the point of view of different characters about what really happened. I did find myself very emotional at the end. The narrator brought every character to life.

The premise of this book really caught my attention. It sounded really interesting. Sadly, Caroline was not a great character. I thought she was whiny and overly dramatic. I really did not like here. I liked the majority of the secondary characters well enough to keep going and find out the ending. Most of the dialogue was believable EXCEPT for her brothers calling her "Sis" which seemed incredibly forced and ridiculous. My brother has never called me Sis nor have I ever heard my husband call any of his 3 sisters Sis (clearly this was an annoyance to me). The other thing that was ridiculous was the ending. I was buying what Mary Louise Kelly was selling up to Part 6 Atlanta. Then, this book really took a turn for the worse. I powered through and found the ending not even slightly satisfying.

I have always enjoyed Stephen King's books. This was no exception. One of the best parts is how King develops his characters with such detail that they literally do come to life. The main characters in this book are Jamie Morton and Charles Jacobs. The plot follows these two through five decades - there's a fair amount of normalcy to balance out the trademark supernatural elements. The dialogue and characters are very believable - plus there's humor woven throughout. I feel like I really can't say more without giving away too much.

I didn't know anything about this book except the main character owned a book store. I thoroughly enjoyed it! I liked the way the plot unfolded and I liked all of the characters. The twists were totally unexpected. I feel like when I don't like a book, I leave a very long and specific review of all the reasons I didn't like it. In this case, I really can't pinpoint exactly what I liked except that I looked forward to finding out what would happen, I laughed in places and cried in others. The narrator also did a great job of giving the characters life.

Although this is fiction, it is a well researched and written memoir. I really liked Addie and was curious to see how her life progressed. I liked the format that she was being interviewed by her 22 year old granddaughter about her life. I liked how she speaks directly to her granddaughter as she reminisces. A few chapters in, it sounded very familiar to me. I checked Goodreads and found out I'd read this 5 years ago. Linda Lavin's narration was wonderful, and I enjoyed it just as much the second time.

I have always enjoyed the way Sandra Brown writes. She has believable characters with very interesting plot twists. This book did not disappoint. Dr. Emory Charbonneau is a very well respected and loved pediatrician and marathon runner. She decides to go on a training run and encounters misfortune. Every time I thought I knew where Sandra Brown was headed, she took a quick turn in the opposite direction. I really liked the pace and plot of this book.
