Historia
Butterflies and Bravery is a podcast created and hosted by two cult Survivors and best friends who were born into the notorious Children of God cult. Listen as Whisper and Jemima tell their stories of turning surviving into thriving, interview other Survivors, and straight talk all things cult, trauma, and religion recovery. Our episodes are guest-led, so anything can happen! Our conversations are real, raw and often NSFW. They may be triggering. But they will thrill and inspire you and give you a new perspective on Survivors, healing and the true success of those leaving, living and loving ...

Been there. Done that.
Revisado: 09-07-21
Ladies, I binged listened to the first four podcasts. It's been on my list for months. Lived with Christina in LA in the early 90's. Think i might have met you, Jemima, at TTC Mexico? Whisper, maybe met your namesake in Seattle on a roadtrip... maybe it was you?
Born and raised. Only recently dealing with my trauma & sooo admire you all for what you're doing.
Had to turn off the Discovery Plus documentary after i saw myself, in line, marching at TTC. Really didn't realize it would hit me that hard. I'm still going to watch.
Keep doing what you're doing. I appreciate you.

Historia
As an adult, Lauren Hough has had many identities: an airman in the US Air Force, a cable guy, a bouncer at a gay club. As a child, however, she had none. Growing up as a member of the infamous cult The Children of God, Hough had her own self robbed from her. The cult took her all over the globe - to Germany, Japan, Texas, Chile - but it wasn't until she finally left for good that Lauren understood she could have a life beyond "The Family."

I certainly hope we hear more from Lauren. Having grown up in the same cult, it's healing to hear what others have been through & their continuing journeys.

Historia
Samantha is a professional seductress and con artist with a heart of gold. If she talked about her work, she’d tell you she only pilfers organs for medical research and that she only takes one kidney, and she only steals those kidneys from dishonest people. It’s hell on her social life. Abe is the doctor and Sam's partner in crime. He isn’t much of a criminal. Except for the kidney stealing. But he’s using that money to fund his research that he anticipates will be able to cure diabetes. So, all for a good cause...? You decide. Of course, it's hell on his social life.

I don't usually like full cast books, but this was extremely well done & very enjoyable. The story was reminiscent of Dave Barry's "Big Trouble." Very fun, easy listening.
