Historia
Helen lives a decent, uncomplicated life. Satisfied in her career, she’s raising three happy teenagers, and her family has the most envied house on the street. Admittedly, she’s growing just a little disenchanted with her marriage to her workaholic husband, Werner. But that’s nothing she can’t fix. For disaffected, young petty criminals Ralf and Brian, it was a scheme to make some cash: a quick home invasion. The targets they’ve chosen are Helen and Werner. Just as planned, Brian disappears into Helen and Werner’s house. And he never comes out again.

I like the author and all the twists and turns but found part of it hard to swallow. Very clever author.

Historia
Caroline Overington's stunning fiction debut is a multi-voiced novel centred around a child's death and its terrible repercussions. In 1982 Victorian police were called to a home on a housing estate an hour west of Melbourne. There, they found a five-year-old boy lying still and silent on the carpet. There were no obvious signs of trauma, but the child, Jacob, died the next day. The story made the headlines, and hundreds attended the funeral. Few people were surprised when the boy's mother and her boyfriend went to prison for the crime.

Good writing

I loved the multiple POVs, something not everyone can pull off. The only problem I found in the story was that Hailey was required to see her mum in prison but the other two kids weren’t. Why would that be?

Glad to hear a recovery story without AA

This was an inspiring story and I was relieved when I didn’t have to read about prayer and 12 steps being involved. The reason I didn’t give it five stars was the narrator’s bizarre pronunciations and pauses when reading it got in the way of the message. Example: sharing antidotes.

I had a hard time stopping so I could sleep last night and I finished it when I got up this morning. Interesting concept, although I figured out part of it. That didn’t detract from the story.

The story was okay, but the narrator’s mispronunciation (brockade, ditn’t, coutn’t) and strange perky articulation were almost too much to take.

Historia
Margot and James are broken up—for good this time. James made sure of it when he dropped the bomb on Margot: that he doesn’t want kids, ever. Then, on the biggest morning of his life, James—an ambitious lawyer at a high-powered firm—wakes up pregnant. He realizes with dread that he is part of a recent epidemic of men suddenly and inexplicably becoming pregnant. His condition obvious to the higher-ups, James is denied the promotion he was expecting, sending him reeling.

Suspending disbelief

Ignoring the physical impossibility, this was a good story projecting what happens when the tables are turned. I couldn’t give it 5 stars because of the grating language of “cisgender”, a term made up by trans ideologists to other women.

Historia
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

I love true crime podcasts and this was more like a long podcast than a book. SO much more engaging with all of the participants/narrators than a single narrator.
