Great book but not easy
Revisado: 01-19-18
For starters but the audio on 1.5x even for a comfortable read. It takes a while to get into but the depth and breadth of information is amazing and worth it. It gives a great foundation to build upon if you have an interest in understand the human species. It helps to show the butterfly effect of civilization for better or worse and how intertwined we all are despite our seeming endless desire to separate ourselves.

Historia
Over the past few decades, a handful of scientists have been racing to explain a disturbing aspect of our universe: only four percent of it consists of the matter that makes up you, me, our books, and every star and planet. The rest is completely unknown. Richard Panek tells the dramatic story of the quest to find this “dark” matter and an even more bizarre substance called “dark energy”. This is perhaps the greatest mystery in all of science, and solving it will bring fame, funding, and certainly a Nobel Prize.

Mix of science and story confuses the two
Revisado: 04-28-17
Overall dark matter and the volume of scientific reference is great as a grounding but in quite a few cases the story telling of drama and political intrigues in the science community confuses the time line and findings and you need to do additional work to confirm relevant scientific points. Still enjoyable and well researched helped by a great reading performance . But overall 3 star because I was lack with a lack of clarity on events and timing

Historia
Edward I is familiar to millions as "Longshanks", conqueror of Scotland and nemesis of Sir William Wallace (in Braveheart). Yet this story forms only the final chapter of the king's action-packed life. Earlier, Edward had defeated and killed the famous Simon de Montfort, traveled to the Holy Land, and conquered Wales. He raised the greatest armies of the Middle Ages and summoned the largest parliaments. Notoriously, he expelled all the Jews from his kingdom.

Interesting but bias and lost me at the end
Revisado: 12-07-15
Didn't waste my time and the book is interesting, well researched and thorough. I just felt it was too "great king" focused especially as he got older, it lost me because based on what I was hearing he was way more "terrible". I felt the evidence and interpretation did not match and it kept me mentally stopping as I assessed the difference and then mentally rolled my eyes by the end. Still worth a read though.

Well written but it's still Rust
Revisado: 07-06-15
My he book has a lot of interesting stories and insights into rust and corrosion, it touches on a wide array of rust linked topics too. However I ultimately did t get a sense of what it all meant, or get involved in the story. "Surviving the scream" had me passionately sucked into an industry and problem I never felt touched me, but after this book I just felt "mmm interesting, what should I read next". With that said it wasn't a time waster and was well researched and written.

Historia
It is now 100 years since drugs were first banned in the United States. On the eve of this centenary, journalist Johann Hari set off on an epic three-year, 30,000-mile journey into the war on drugs. What he found is that more and more people all over the world have begun to recognize three startling truths: Drugs are not what we think they are. Addiction is not what we think it is. And the drug war has very different motives to the ones we have seen on our TV screens for so long.

Eye opening and well documented
Revisado: 05-06-15
There is a slight bias in the narrative towards drug legalization but the book is a powerful discussion for everyone no matter which side of the issue you stand on. I left the book moved and changed in respect to my opinions and that's no mean feat for a book

Historia
Earth evolves. From first atom to molecule, mineral to magma, granite crust to single cell to verdant living landscape, ours is a planet constantly in flux. In this radical new approach to Earth’s biography, senior Carnegie Institution researcher and national best-selling author Robert M. Hazen reveals how the co-evolution of the geosphere and biosphere - of rocks and living matter - has shaped our planet into the only one of its kind in the Solar System, if not the entire cosmos.

Lack of Direction and Support
Revisado: 10-17-03
This is an interesting subject and many interesting sightings and events are described but the arguments and basis for his suggestions are weak and sometimes annoyingly lacking in anything substantial. I am skeptically fasinated in the topic but the book offered stories over a convincing developing process of a real argument. I was left frustrated with more questions about his opinions than an understanding of what he was ultimately trying to prove or say about what was happening.
