Historia
On a struggling Texas plantation, six enslaved women slip from their sleeping quarters and gather in the woods under the cover of night. The Lucys—as they call the plantation owners, after Lucifer himself—have decided to turn around the farm’s bleak financial prospects by making the women bear children. Hard to follow
Revisado: 04-24-25
This book was hard to follow because it switches from. First person narrative to a third person, and it wasn’t until the end of the book I realized who “I” and “me” were. It wasn’t until the end of the noon I realized who everyone was. Probably a good book in print version.

I didn’t know this was a title for young adults, I think I got it for free at some point. Nonetheless, it was fun and entertaining to listen to, especially the performance.

In this powerful true story, Theresa Flores shares how her life as an All-American, blue-eyed, blond-haired, 15-year-old teenager was enslaved into the dangerous world of sex trafficking.

Sexual slavery in an upper class society is still slavery
Revisado: 03-19-25
It’s always good to learn more compassion. I, like, a lot of people deferred myself to men as the stronger sex and I’m constantly reminded to change that thinking. People who blame Theresa for her abuse are just simply misogynistic, even if they are women. This book explores a lot of flaws in the system at every level.
Quick aside: there are really long pauses between chapters and I kept thinking the battery on my headphones were dead or my phone was.

Historia
Amber wakes up in a hospital. She can't move. She can't speak. She can't open her eyes. She can hear everyone around her, but they have no idea. Amber doesn't remember what happened, but she has a suspicion her husband had something to do with it. Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from 20 years ago, this brilliant psychological thriller asks: Is something really a lie if you believe it's the truth?

Nursery rhymes got old

The story line was also a bit confusing. It didn’t really hold my attention, and with the sing song nursery rhymes it got a little annoying.

Lame
Revisado: 01-30-25
You can never expect fiction to resemble reality, but this one was so far off the mark. The inaccuracy of the book made it so hard to listen to. Further, the story isn’t good, and the narrative throughout the book doesn’t match the ending.

Historia
The Kennedy name has long been synonymous with wealth, power, glamor, and—above all else—integrity. But this carefully constructed veneer hides a dark truth: the pattern of Kennedy men physically and psychologically abusing women and girls, leaving a trail of ruin and death in each generation’s wake. Through decades of scandal after scandal—from sexual assaults to reputational slander, suicides to manslaughter—the family and their defenders have kept the Kennedy brand intact.

Historia
In 1985, Anthony Ray Hinton was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder in Alabama. Stunned, confused, and only 29 years old, Hinton knew that it was a case of mistaken identity and believed that the truth would prove his innocence and ultimately set him free. But with an incompetent defense attorney and a different system of justice for a poor black man in the South, Hinton was sentenced to death by electrocution. He spent his first three years on Death Row at Holman State Prison in despairing silence.

Revisado: 08-09-24
Thank you Ray Hinton for sharing your story. I already didn’t believe in the death penalty, but now I think I need to take action and advocate for its abolishment. The clear and overt racism made me so angry, and it’s amazing how little progress we’ve made in 40 years.
