Captain Dominika Egorova of the Russian Intelligence Service (SVR) has returned from the West to Moscow and the Center, the headquarters of her service. She finds things worse than when she left. Historia
Emma didn't know how long he hid, silent and unmoving, in the large Victorian wardrobe to the side of her single bed. She didn't know how long he peered out, salivating and drooling, between the two heavy dark oak doors, and watched, mesmerized, as she slowly drifted into fitful sleep. She didn't know what time he pushed the doors open and crept towards her in the drab grey darkness of the night.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Great idea, brutal book.
Revisado: 02-02-16
I am so disappointed. This book could have done with some serious editing. I was so bored at points I swear the only thing that held me was the narrator. He did well considering. A waste of a credit and hours I can never get back. If you must indulge, get the abridged, or better yet, read the book summary - that's as good as it gets.

Historia
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Brilliantly Sick and Twisted
Revisado: 05-08-15
What happens when your marriage is reduced to a game of cat and mouse? We live in a world where reality and fiction are so intertwined that we expect our partners to 'say the right thing and react the right way' because that's what the movies say or our favourite magazine has published. How far would you go to get your spouse to fit the mould?
The ending disturbed me but only because it reeked of reality. Sometimes things stay messy - not every story ends with a kiss and a promise of ever after.
Excellent listen. Another win! Thanks Audible!

With the redolent atmosphere of Ian Rankin and the spine-chilling characters of Thomas Harris, Mo Hayder's The Devil of Nanking, takes the reader on an electrifying literary ride from the palatial apartments of yakuza kingpins to deep inside the secret history of one of the twentieth century's most brutal events: the Nanking Massacre.

Geez, So Disappointing...
Revisado: 05-02-15
I am a huge fan of Mo Hayder and, although I really like the perspective this story is told from, I was left feeling kinda ripped.
Of the two main characters, the Chinese professor was interesting and had a lot of depth. I could empathize with his story.
The young woman in the story had potential that was never realized, and she, along with the rest of the characters, made me just want to yell, "Get to the point already!" They simply bored me.
This one isn't going on my recommend list.

Historia
Joe O'Loughlin is in familiar territory--standing on a bridge high above a flooded gorge, trying to stop a distraught woman from jumping. "You don't understand," she whispers and lets go. Joe is haunted by his failure to save the woman until her teenage daughter finds him and reveals that her mother never would have committed suicide--not like that. She was terrified of heights.

How Far Would You Go?
Revisado: 04-28-15
This third installment was the best yet. I was immediately hooked from the first few words. Joseph O'Loughlin has become one of my favorite characters whom I like to revisit as I listen to this series.
I found myself confronted with the question of how far I would go to save someone I love. And then, would my actions save them anyway?
If you like psychological thrillers, this is a must listen. The narrator is excellent and I can't wait to listen to him again.
Another winner! Thanks Audible!!

Historia
In a quiet residential area in London, a couple is discovered bound and imprisoned in their own home. Savagely battered and severely dehydrated, the worst revelation is yet to come: their eight-year-old son has been abducted. But when the body is found and forensic evidence turns the case on its head, revealing disturbing parallels to events in Detective Caffery's own past, Caffery realizes he's dealing with much more sinister forces than he'd anticipated - and finds it increasingly difficult to maintain his distance.

Absolutely Incredible . . . That's all I Can Say
Revisado: 04-26-15
I listened to this book while cleaning out my cold room and I say this simply because it had such an impression on me that I will never forget doing that mundane task. I was mesmerized by this story that made me want to cry, to vomit, to scream. It was one of those books where I wanted so badly to interfere and guide the main character in the right direction, but would that be better? Mo Hayder's ability to visit the minds of characters who are abhorrent human beings was astounding. To say I loved this story as much as I was sickened by it seems odd but there is just no other way to put it. This story drove home the point that ignorance is bliss. Damien Goodwin was an outstanding narrator. I still get a cold shiver when I think of this novel.

Is There Ever a Statute of Limitations on Revenge?
Revisado: 04-26-15
There are consequences for actions and the fact that there seems to be no statute of limitations for revenge makes a person wonder if, in fact, we will eventually pay for the mistakes we made as wee children. Mistakes that most of us will never remember since our actions at 5 or 6 years old are often lost to the dull mist of memory. Hmmm.. this could be a scary thought.
Candida Gubbins narrated this story well.

Magic Rings and Sinister Things...
Revisado: 04-26-15
This story was my first introduction to Mitchell Hogan and it did not disappoint. Sorcery and adventure are always fun but only if it is actually believable. When an author does it right, the magic makes sense and the world created does not contradict itself. There are rules and "culture" within which the characters make decisions and choose to act. The world feels real and the characters have substance.
Oliver Wyman as narrator makes the story even better. It was a win! Thanks Audible!!

Historia
It was a crime of senseless violence. On a cold night in a remote Swedish farmhouse, an elderly farmer was bludgeoned to death, his wife left to die with a noose around her neck. As if this didn't present enough problems for Ystad police inspector Kurt Wallander, the dying woman's last word, his only tangible clue, were foreign. If publicized, they could be the match that would inflame Sweden's already smoldering anti-immigrant sentiments.

Kurt Wallender - I like you...
Revisado: 04-20-15
I really enjoyed this story. It was relatable and didn't seem far fetched. The main character Kurt has some depth and although some of his behaviour is questionable (when it comes to the ladies), it doesn't come out of nowhere - he has reasons for his actions that are also relatable.
I will give the next in this series a try for sure.
