Definitely elicited emotions from me. I was vocal

this one wasn't for me. Others commented on twists and surprises. It was pretty predictable. Who is Verity? I have my own opinion on which story is the true story, This gave me anxiety lol

Historia
When Iola Anne Poole, an old-timer on Hatteras Island, passes away in her bed at ninety-one, the struggling young mother in her rental cottage, Tandi Jo Reese, finds herself charged with the task of cleaning out the rambling Victorian house. Running from a messy, dangerous past, Tandi never expects to find more than a temporary hiding place within Iola's walls, but everything changes with the discovery of eighty-one carefully decorated prayer boxes, one for each year, dating from Iola's youth to her last days.

Imperfect, but good, people making the best of it
Revisado: 01-23-24
I really like this story, but parts of the narration is so distracting. The voices of Iola and Tandy's kids are barely audible. Zoe seems like a very responsible, capable, confident and typical teenage girl, but yet the voice used as her voice at times makes her sound like she's a small, whiny child. The other voices are so breathy and hard to understand. I do love how the story unfolds to reveal that the seemingly weaker characters in the story make good choices.

The story is good. lost me when the story went back in history, hard to understand the strong accents and deep voice used at some times. The ending became pretty interesting.

Good mystery.
Revisado: 12-18-23
I mostly enjoyed the book, but the narrator who was the voice for Rowan was so bad that I almost stopped listening. Her voice was so low and monotone that I had to turn the volume up to 10 to understand her. The rest of the voices were great.

Girls weekend meets real life
Revisado: 11-29-23
I enjoyed this book so much! I need my own girls weekend so I lived one vicariously through this book. I had recently listened to two very intense and emotional audiobooks so I needed a lighthearted listen. This book had a bit of everything. Tears and laughter and sisterhood. Even the mother/daughter dynamic. Very relevant life stuff was included and it was a great listen. I didn't want it to end.

Love Nora Goes off Script. My fav summer read!
Revisado: 07-20-23
This is such a good book. The characters are all relatable and you can imagine yourself living in this community, interacting with each of them. The setting and the Tea Room are beautifully described so you have this visual as you move through the home and the porch and the lawn with the family and guest. Thought provoking activities. We need to appreciate the mundane day to day tasks we just walk through without eyes fully opened. Things aren't always as they seem. Just loved this book.

Revisado: 07-03-23
The monotone voice of the narrator became annoying for me. Sleepy actually. No change in voice to distinguish characters. The story was interesting since I am not a follower of current Cuba politics. The story was thought provoking and shocking in that people are forced to live in such a controlled country.

Hard to stick with this one, but glad I did
Revisado: 02-08-23
I wanted to pull my hair out during the first half of this book. The constant kissing and character actions over and over was so trying. With just one third left, the story got some traction and while pretty predictable, still unfolded in a good story line. Hang in there to the end. The narrator is fantastic.

started off great
Revisado: 11-01-22
At about chapter 13 the storyline got so detailed about the interworkings of the group and their backstories. It became so hard to listen as it was so drawn out. Maybe it's just my dislike for gang or cult style information. I wanted one piece of information at the end of the story, a bit of redemption for Will and it didn't happen. Seemed forgotten. It was such a big part of the drama in earlier chapters that we didn't get closure on. it was an enlightening read about events that could really happen and do happen to a lesser degree.
