crazy making and exhausting melodrama

After listening to the first 2 books in this series, friends, I feel so bad for the voice artists. they are pros and do a beeeaaauuutiful job bringing characters to life. but. the schizophrenic logic and mood shifts literally take whatever genius could be in the storyline into a ridiculous place where you feel like you're being made dumb from it. gaslit. Think "exodus" refers to what you'll feel like doing after a few chapters. The thing that baffles me is that conceptually there are enough sparks of insight here for many many books, so why imbue such whirling rubble of untethered emotion? to drag it out? I kind of held a clemency through the first book for some of the egregious macho behavior and lack of female character development because it seemed genre-logical to some extent, as if it would evolve and end up somewhere interesting. but by the second book - omg, what happened to the story? it devolves into a constant escalating melodramatic whiplash sequence rife with delusion and spinning and -- the misogeny is relentless!?! it's so randomly . . . off base and wrong, it's like befriending a sociopathic vacuous narcissist and needing to believe that being literally, sometimes violently, stalked for one's . . . great beauty and . . . sass (?!) is equivalent to worthiness, all while hand raising for repeated abuse; and reciprocal abusive thinking. sigh. it's all of a piece. leave this one in the catalog. trust me.

The performances 100% brought the story to life, The book was good but the dynamic ride brought by the actors made it a captivating listen. Highly recommend!

OMG the mouth noise

Delightful Dan Brown novel - clever and exciting. The narrator is incredibly talented and brings the story to life with a brilliant consistent read - but listen on poor speakers or in car during textured road trip to obscure the swallowing and juicy mouth noises, seriously gagalicious - wish they’d go back in and edit those out, it would have been a much better listening experience.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Erin Mallon and Tad Branson ?

Erin is a talented VO artist - I enjoy her voice a lot ehhh --- but somebody needs to go in ehhh and edit out the breaths ehhh at the end of every. ehh. single. ehh. phrase. ehh. -- the constant breathe-ins don't go with the script, are completely distracting and beyond ANNOYING ehh -- honestly it's so prevalent ehh - it becomes entirely grating. ehh. so I stopped listening and ordered the ebook. gah! ehhh. sorry to have wasted an audible credit, definitely will make a point to listen to the previews for this type of ehh thing in future. ehh.

Not sure which was worse, the writing or the narration....bllech. Seriously, this one was purchased as part of a sale and seriously not worth it. I kept hanging in there hoping there would be a spark of something interesting or worthwhile but no. Heck no. Awful thru and thru.

Yes! Pia and Dragos are the focus

Having purchased this in the series, I hadn't realized it was told from Pia's pov- so wonderful, brought it all full circle to the first book. This is a lord of the rings style epic- really - very insightful and inspired. Intense for sure, but lovely and fun and beautiful too. Can't wait to get started on the next one!!!

One dimensional, one liners, one note

It seemed like a fun idea, but this book never gets off the ground. The characters are shallow, dull and transparent stereotypes. Very disappointing.
