Historia
Ruth Jefferson is a labor and delivery nurse at a Connecticut hospital with more than 20 years’ experience. During her shift, Ruth begins a routine checkup on a newborn, only to be told a few minutes later that she’s been reassigned to another patient. The parents are white supremacists and don’t want Ruth, who is African American, to touch their child. The hospital complies with their request, but the next day, the baby goes into cardiac distress while Ruth is alone in the nursery. Does she obey orders or does she intervene?

This book was incredible
Revisado: 01-14-25
The timing of reading this novel in the political climate we’re in and entering in January 2025 is on point. Everyone should read this with an open mind and heart. The research Jodi Picoult did for this novel is evident in the story. I’m shooketh. Thank you.

Unexpectedly the best book I’ve read all year…
Revisado: 12-29-23
I’ll admit I didn’t read the description before jumping into this. I picked it because I like the author so I knew it would be good. I had no idea it would pull me in within seconds of starting. I couldn’t put it down. The journey I went on was gritty and heartbreaking while reminding me of the power of human tenacity and will to live. This is a story not just about the protagonist’s journey through displacement but easily about the millions of people who have faced these struggles as a result of war, the whole world over.
I wonder if I’ll find another book I loved as much as this one…

Historia
In Dead Man's Walk, Gus and Call are not yet 20, young men coming of age in the days when Texas was still an independent republic. Enlisting as Texas Rangers under a land pirate who wants to seize Santa Fe from the Mexicans, Gus and Call experience their first great adventure in the barren great plains landscape, in which arbitrary violence is the rule -- whether from nature, or from the Indians whose territory they must cross in order to reach New Mexico.<

Excellent!
Revisado: 03-08-15
I live in New Mexico and traveled thru Texas a good bit so hearing this historical and descriptive narration of the land I love was so neat. Excellent storyteller with a great ability to change his voice depending on the character he was narrating.

Historia
Beyond the Pale - winner of the Lambda Literary Award - tells the stories of two Jewish women living through times of darkness and inhumanity in the early 20th century, capturing their undaunted love and courage in luminous and moving prose. The richly textured novel details Gutke Gurvich's odyssey from her apprenticeship as a midwife in a Russian shtetl to her work in the suffrage movement in New York.

Beautiful
Revisado: 01-31-15
Gripping. Compelling. Compassionate. Historically moving. All these words come to mind as I think back on this well written story. More than a story.
