Historia
New York Times tech reporter Kashmir Hill was skeptical when she got a tip about a mysterious app called Clearview AI that claimed it could, with 99 percent accuracy, identify anyone based on just one snapshot of their face. The app could supposedly scan a face and, in just seconds, surface every detail of a person’s online life: their name, social media profiles, friends and family members, home address, and photos that they might not have even known existed.

haunting tale of the dystopia that is now
Revisado: 03-31-24
this was a well researched, well documented tale of the end of privacy. if you think you have a shred of anonymity, read this. if you think we don't live in a police state, read this. the dystopia is real. the question is what will we do next

The United States incarcerates more of its residents than any other nation. Though home to five percent of the global population, the United States has nearly 25 percent of the world’s prisoners - a total of over two million people. This number continues to steadily rise. Over the past 40 years, the number of people behind bars in the United States has increased by 500 percent.

8/10 eye-opening book
Revisado: 05-16-23
I found this book about the problems and history and options for our criminal justice system fascinating. read it in one sitting.
the author is a criminal legal legal system activist so of course there is a strong emphasis there and bias. however this book is well researched and includes numerous studies as well as first-hand accounts of people who have spent time incarcerated.
this book does not claim to have all the answers, but it does highlight many of the struggles and institutionalized problems with our prison system.

Revisado: 04-13-21
one of the best books/podcasts/articles that I've ever read on the subject of climate change. Bill Gates did an excellent job of laying out the problem areas, the history of emissions, current technologies, areas of active research, and a framework for moving forward. I will absolutely recommend this to a friend!

Historia
Millions of words have poured forth about man's trip to the moon, but until now few people have had a sense of the most engrossing side of the adventure: namely, what went on in the minds of the astronauts themselves - in space, on the moon, and even during certain odysseys on earth. It is this, the inner life of the astronauts, that Tom Wolfe describes with his almost uncanny empathetic powers that made The Right Stuff a classic.

Historia
As President Trump’s national security advisor, John Bolton spent many of his 453 days in the room where it happened, and the facts speak for themselves. The result is one of the few White House memoirs to date by a top-level official. With almost daily access to the president, John Bolton has produced a precise rendering of his days in and around the Oval Office. What Bolton saw astonished him: a president for whom getting reelected was the only thing that mattered, even if it meant endangering or weakening the nation.

A Book that Made Me a Better Person
- De Jeff Diamond en 03-29-13
the best novel I have ever read!
Revisado: 08-13-20
I knew the story, or thought I knew the story from the musical and movie and songs, but the novel is SO incredibly much more. the characters are passionately deeper. the background is complex, abstract, and tangential at times, but rich. the ending is sweeter, more somber, more moving, and more bitter than any dramatization has ever captured. I can unequivocally state that Les Miserables is the best story I have EVER read!
