I started listening based on a recommendation. I had quit once before with Chantix but once COVID hit I picked up vaping again.

I was very skeptical about whether this would work given how difficult it has always been to stop, but as the last chapter rolled around I felt nervous, but ready. It has been 56 hours since I ingested nicotine. I was pleasantly surprised how accurate to book describes the withdrawals and how they are not from nicotine, but from the mental process that pulls you toward your addiction.

I'll update in a few weeks on my progress.

Second listen

this is my second listen and it is just as good as the first. The narrator could not be better. His mix of empathy and suspicion make the reading absolutely brilliant. This book is not for the faint of heart. The scenes described are laughably terrifying. The incompetence is so deep it should be a comedy, but yet it snuffs out the life of the Innocent. I'm sure I will listen to this a third time. I'm sure I will feel the same emotions; tears and uncomfortably guilty laughter.

Doom with a silver lining.

pretty gloomy but written with a lot of love. It is obvious the author loves his home and is concerned for it's future. The author takes a very fair and nuanced look into the situation in Europe. Very much worth a listen.

Didn't expect such a gripping story

love love love it. I had listened to and thoroughly enjoyed Escape from Camp 14, another of the authors books, but I still didn't expect this to be so good. My standard for a good audio book is if it keeps me driving around town just to listen. This one hit that mark. I found myself running numerous errands that I either made up, or had been putting off for some time, just to keep listening. Worth a listen not only for the historical perspective about the founder of the DPRK, but also the very personal story about a man who had had enough and decided to take his chances with his enemy.

I enjoyed the story and narrator in general. But the conversations (and the book is mostly convos) was sometimes hard to follow. But still definitely worth a listen

Loooooved this

this is my first time experiencing this book. Has been on my bookshelf for a while but never got to it. Decided to pick the audiobook up because I needed something for a long days travel. Man was I not disappointed. loved it even more when I heard Harlan Ellison's voice as one of the adult. Timeless story, with timeless characters, and the timeless confliction of being a human, and on top of that, a child, in a vicious and unforgiving world. Couldn't recommend it more!

I thought this was an April fools joke because it wouldn't initially download. but alas, it finally did and I thoroughly enjoyed it. 10/10 would listen to more of the encyclopedia.
