Historia
Gail Baines is having a bad day. To start, she loses her job—or quits, depending on whom you ask. Tomorrow her daughter, Debbie, is getting married, and she hasn’t even been invited to the spa day organized by the mother of the groom. Then, Gail’s ex-husband, Max, arrives unannounced on her doorstep, carrying a cat, without a place to stay, and without even a suit. But the true crisis lands when Debbie shares with her parents a secret she has just learned about her husband to be. It will not only throw the wedding into question but also stir up Gail and Max’s past.

Simple, Enjoyable, performed 5 stars
Revisado: 02-14-25
The narrative unfolded beautifully, and I particularly appreciated the interwoven themes of forgiveness, the importance of new beginnings, and the liberating act of letting go of past regrets and the pursuit of an unattainable ideal of perfection. The story's exploration of these powerful concepts resonated with me.
While I thoroughly enjoyed the book overall, the conclusion felt somewhat empty and left me wanting more. The open ending, while potentially setting the stage for a sequel, left a sense of incompleteness for me personally. This feeling of being left slightly unsatisfied was further amplified by the fact that I devoured the entire book in under a day – a testament to its compelling nature, yet also a touch disappointing as it meant my reading adventure ended rather quickly.
Now, the challenge is finding a new book equally engaging to keep me company during my treadmill sessions. I'm eager to discover my next literary escape!

Travel disappointment
Revisado: 11-07-17
Was looking for a short, easy story, with a feel good ending for a 2 hour flight. Finished the book 3 weeks after purchase for I didn’t want to waste the credit used.
Nancy Issacs’ reading of the first few chapters made it difficult to follow the story. Her voice was too soft and sweet plus, without the proper pauses - the lack of pause made it feel run-on/rushed. It was difficult for me to follow - comprehend. A few chapters in -as the story engaged -Nancy's tone seemed to fall into harmony with the story. If you're interested in this story, you may find it easier to read the book.

Historia
Elsa is seven years old and different. Her grandmother is 77 years old and crazy, standing-on-the-balcony-firing-paintball-guns-at-men-who-want-to-talk-about-Jesus crazy. She is also Elsa's best and only friend. At night Elsa takes refuge in her grandmother's stories, in the Land of Almost-Awake and the Kingdom of Miamas, where everybody is different and nobody needs to be normal.

Life Happenings - misinterpretations
Revisado: 06-24-16
At times, I needed to go back, reread/listen, to recall who's who though, overall I thoroughly enjoyed.
I went between audio and the book; there were areas I felt my read of the written word allowed phrases/happenings to linger longer.
Overall, though many characters, the story amusingly, with heartache, captures why we should not always "take someone/something at face value, or at another's value"
Well done.

follow your heart, live in the moment
Revisado: 06-14-16
This story is engaging from beginning to end and will hold deep within my heart for a long time. I feel as though I personally know each character and the course of their lives, then and now. Writings as this usually leaves me wishing it didn't end. However, for me, the pages may have ended though not the story. This is my first read of Catherine Ryan Hyde and my first audio with Jeff Cummings narrating, though certainly not my last.
