Historia
Cambridge professor Emily Wilde is good at many things: She is the foremost expert on the study of faeries. She is a genius scholar and a meticulous researcher who is writing the world’s first encyclopaedia of faerie lore. But Emily Wilde is not good at people. She could never make small talk at a party—or even get invited to one. And she prefers the company of her books, her dog, Shadow, and the Fair Folk to other people. So when she arrives in the hardscrabble village of Hrafnsvik, Emily has no intention of befriending the gruff townsfolk.

a wonderful cozy fantasy!
Revisado: 07-09-23
This novel reminded me of Olivia Atwater’s books, only more scientific. The setting/scenery was magical. However the best part by far was Bambleby. His inclusion brought some needed humor. I would read countless books about him. Can’t wait for the sequel!

incomprehensible in the best possible way
Revisado: 07-01-23
I’ve listened to this book twice and I know there are still so many things I missed. The writing is layered and everything has a purpose. I missed Gideon’s humor, but Harrow is such a complicated and interesting character. Being in her head was quite a trip 😉 Also Moira Quirk should narrate everything.

Historia
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Revisado: 07-01-23
This book is wildly confusing, dark, heartbreaking, and hilarious! I love Gideon so much! I’ve never read anything like the Locked Tomb series. Moira Quirk is also the best narrator and just adds so much to the writing.

Historia
Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction. January Andrews writes best-selling romance. When she pens a happily ever after, he kills off his entire cast. They’re polar opposites. In fact, the only thing they have in common is that for the next three months, they're living in neighboring beach houses, broke, and bogged down with writer's block.

psa: don’t read this at the beach
Revisado: 07-01-23
Contemporary romance and I don’t usually get along, but this book is the exception. Beach Read is not a light summer story like the title and cover portray. It’s a emotional journey through grief with a side of romance (don’t get me wrong, Gus and January’s relationship is absolutely wonderful!!!) January’s internal turmoil hit close to home and will be sticking with me for a long time. The ending had me sobbing. Julia Whelan is also a gem and I love her narration!

The perfect mixture of Howl’s Moving Castle and Pride & Prejudice! How could it be anything but 5 stars?! This best book I’ve read this year by far; I’ve already listened to it 2x this past month.

Olivia Atwater just gets it
Revisado: 07-01-23
I’m so blessed that I discovered Olivia Atwater’s novels this year. I’m 100% her target audience. Small Miracles is whimsical in the best way and reminiscent of Good Omens. The writing is humorous and heartfelt at the same time. Rafe Beckley did a great job as narrator too!
