Not really up to standards of early series
Revisado: 07-21-12
What was most disappointing about James Patterson and Maxine Paetro ’s story?
It is a bit hard to pin, but I never thought this story line reached as high as the early parts of this series. They fit 2 distinct lines into a very short story, and neither really felt fulfilled.
Have you listened to any of January LaVoy’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have seen other commentators that said she was terrible, and I don't agree there at all. This is the first book I have heard from her. I would consider her competent, though not necessarily the best I have heard. Some variation of voice for characters, but again, not as much variation as leads to a WOW! experience.
Was 11th Hour worth the listening time?
It was not terrible, but not great either. It fit in the "3-star" category of "nice enough for a short diversion, but not good enough to recommend."

Poorly read and poorly written
Revisado: 07-07-12
What disappointed you about Death Perception?
"He said", "She said", "He said" over and over until I thought I was going to scream. The writing was completely second-rate. I rarely write bad reviews, but this one demanded it.
What was most disappointing about Victoria Laurie’s story?
I didn't even finish the book. It was so bad that I tossed it after about 2-1/2 hours. I often like supernatural oriented stories, if they have some charm and don't take themselves too seriously. "First Grave on the Left" (and series), "Nice Girls Don't Bite Their Neighbors" (and series), etc are great.
This one was just plain dull. Paired with the bad writing (see above) and bad reading (see below), it was not worth completing -- a rarity for me...
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator speaks in a single voice for all characters. She varies her voice just enough to avoid a monotone, but often pauses in inappropriate places, and gives no sense of character to anyone.

Based on more than 40 interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.

No lessons to learn here...
Revisado: 05-12-12
Any additional comments?
I was a professional Mac software developer from 1995 through 2001. (I have done PC development since 2001). I have all Macs at home, and have often marveled at the genius of The Steve.
I listened to this book, hoping to gain some insights into his genius. What I heard is that Steve was an obnoxious, spoiled, delusional, megalomaniac that should have never come close to succeeding.
Maybe there are lessons here, but my only lesson was that Steve Should Not Have Happened. Nothing going on here. Move along...

Historia
Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

Boring!
Revisado: 04-30-12
What disappointed you about Hounded?
Not sure why others liked this, but I found the story massively boring! And yes, I do like vampire, werewolf, etc stories that are well done. I just found myself so bored that I finally stopped listening at around 2 Hr and moved to the next book in my library.
Life is too short for poor writing like this...

Historia
Paul Bäumer is just 19 years old when he and his classmates enlist. They are Germany’s Iron Youth who enter the war with high ideals and leave it disillusioned or dead. As Paul struggles with the realities of the man he has become, and the world to which he must return, he is led like a ghost of his former self into the war’s final hours. All Quiet is one of the greatest war novels of all time, an eloquent expression of the futility, hopelessness and irreparable losses of war.

Gritty war brought to life
Revisado: 04-17-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a classic, often taught in school. Somehow I never read it back then, though I had heard of it often. The story is compelling, even if depressing. The reality of the life of soldier in the trenches in WW I is very much brought to life.

Historia
Are there any logical reasons to believe in God? Mathematician and best-selling author John Allen Paulos thinks not. In Irreligion he presents the case for his own worldview, organizing his book into 12 chapters that refute the 12 arguments most often put forward for believing in God's existence.

Boring and obvious...
Revisado: 03-25-12
What disappointed you about Irreligion?
I am a confirmed Atheist and cannot understand why anyone would believe in a supernatural being, yet I found this book boring and exceedingly obvious. I quit less than an hour into it, unable to stand the boredom of the poor writing.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator wasn't all that bad, but he had nothing to really work with.

Revisado: 06-08-11
Just agreeing with the other comments here. While competent in the reading, this is simply not in the same class as the prior 12 books in the series. It was an unpleasant shock to hear Peabody and the rest of the cast. They all sound exactly like Dallas here, often leading to confusion over who is saying what.:(
