Historia
Eighteen-year-old Debbie was raised on her family’s rural dairy farm, 40 minutes and a world away from Dublin. She lives with her mother, Maeve, a skittish woman who takes to her bed for days on end, claims not to know who Debbie’s father is, and believes her dreams are prophecies. Rounding out their small family is Maeve’s brother, Billy, who lives in a caravan behind their house, drinks too much, and likes to impersonate famous dead writers online. Though they may have their quirks, the Whites’ fierce love for one another is never in doubt. But Debbie’s life is changing.

Ruth Wariner was the 39th of her father's 42 children. Growing up on a farm in rural Mexico, where authorities turned a blind eye to the practices of her community, Ruth lives in a ramshackle house without indoor plumbing or electricity. At church, preachers teach that God will punish the wicked by destroying the world and that women can ascend to heaven only by entering into polygamous marriages and giving birth to as many children as possible.

Not a survivalist or a prepper story
Revisado: 03-04-22
The ending was good. The story has many main characters. I was really hoping for a strong female lead character, a survivalist with strength and skill. But most of the main characters are male, and none of them were hardcore survivalists, or at the very least preppers. I'm guessing that most of the people that like these kinds of books are very pro-gun (gun skills, gun rights, etc), including myself. I prefer that all of the main characters, including the women, be very proficient with weapons, including guns, rather than just realizing at the very last minute, on the eve of Doomsday, or Doomsday itself, that guns are okay, and then all of a sudden be able to handle one.
There were some horrendous situations which definitely held my attention, but I wish there was a little more focus on the characters' skills and abilities, rather than surviving by luck or divine intervention. Speaking of which, it would be nice if God were mentioned a little more.
There was a review I read that complained about there being some love connections throughout all of the catastrophes, and I disagree that it takes away from the story. I think love can bloom anywhere, even at the end of the world. But then I'm a total romantic myself.
With just a few tweaks I would have given this book at least a four out of five. A couple of the main characters didn't need to be in the book. They didn't add much to the story and weren't particularly likable. I can't remember their names but they were the two guys driving across the bridge. The story skipped around a lot, which I also found frustrating, especially in the first several chapters, but easier to follow towards the end. I liked the parts about giant craters and volcanoes and entire cities disappearing. Those parts were fascinating and full of suspense.

Arriving in Cairo for another thrilling excavation season, Amelia is relaxing in a well-earned bubble bath in her elegant hotel suite in Cairo when a man with a knife protruding from his back staggers into the bath chamber and utters a single word - "murder" - before collapsing on the tiled floor, dead. Among the few possessions he carried was a sheet of paper with Amelia's name and room number.

Only ONE narrator (for book of Romans)
Revisado: 01-23-21
Romans is a fantastic book of the Bible, and the background music is quite beautiful, but unfortunately the "all-star cast" listed as the narrator is very misleading. I only heard ONE narrator, (I believe it's Marshall Luke Allman) for the entire book of Romans. He did a nice job but I was so excited to hear all of the cast take turns reading and was very disappointed to find it was only one.

Revisado: 02-14-19
This book has been a huge help to me. I think people who are chronically overweight, like me, need to change how they think about eating and this book helps to do that. its especially helpful that the author and his wife are so incredibly relatable as they too struggled significantly with their weight .
