Wanted: Volunteers for Project Delta. Will guarantee you a medal. A body bag. Or both. With this call to arms, Charlie Beckwith revolutionized American armed combat. Beckwith's acclaimed memoir tells the story of Delta Force as only its maverick creator could tell it - from the bloody baptism of Vietnam to the top-secret training grounds of North Carolina to political battles in the upper levels of the Pentagon itself. This is the heart-pounding, first-person insider's view of the missions that made Delta Force legendary.

Reality of war -
Revisado: 12-15-23
The events of suffering experienced by a young morally confused German solider seeking his true identity in the mist of a heinous war.
I found the book was very effective in placing me in the boots of a German conscript on the eastern front. The day-to-day experiences as a member of the German Army were clearly felt emotionally and physically.
The authors experiences became palpably real to me as the reader (i.e., I was mentally tasting the realities and sufferings of war on the eastern front in WWII from the perspective of a German combat soldier.).
The book intertwines the authors fond memories of his youth and the desire to live life to the fullest in direct contrast to the bleak reality of life and death of the German soldier in full retreat (war).
I felt his (author) angst of searching for self-identity in the mist of one of the most brutal wars in the history of modern man.
The authors details of daily living place you by his side experiencing the horrors & vicissitudes of the Eastern Front. The pros and metaphors of the writer were superb - felt I was there. Outstanding read…

Historia
Four days before Christmas in 1943, a badly damaged American bomber struggled to fly over wartime Germany. At its controls was a 21-year-old pilot. Half his crew lay wounded or dead. It was their first mission. Suddenly a sleek, dark shape pulled up on the bomber’s tail - a German Messerschmitt fighter. Worse, the German pilot was an ace, a man able to destroy the American bomber with the squeeze of a trigger.

December 1944: Deep in the Ardennes forest, a platoon of 18 men under the command of 20-year-old lieutenant Lyle Bouck huddle in their foxholes. Under attack and vastly outnumbered, they repulse three German assaults in a fierce day-long battle, killing more than 500 Germans. Only when Bouck's men run out of ammunition do they surrender. As POWs, Bouck's platoon experience an ordeal far worse than combat: trigger-happy German guards, Allied bombing raids, and a daily ration of thin soup. Somehow, the men of Bouck's platoon all miraculously survive.

Historical event that was embellished by the author. Yet, the embellishment worked to the listeners advantage. Good story with a great deal of human interest, unbearable suffering, and human interest.
The trek of this man was fascinating. Narrator did an excellent job describing natural events on the prairie and the remoteness of the day. Great listen if you are an outdoorsman, hunter or camper.

John Plaster’s riveting account of his covert activities as a member of a special operations team during the Vietnam War is “a true insider’s account...this eye-opening report will leave readers feeling as if they’ve been given a hot scoop on a highly classified project” (Publishers Weekly). Code-named the Studies and Observations Group, SOG was the most secret elite US military unit to serve in the Vietnam War - so secret that its very existence was denied by the government.

Outstanding story...I am so grateful for these warriors. Provided a glimpse on what is like to be a Special Forces Warrior. Many died for their brothers and those they served with. A lot of anxiety was felt regarding on how government treated these brave dedicated men. A must read or listen. 5 stars...thanks SOG YOUR NOT FORGOTTEN.
