This was a very slow story and easily 10 hours too long. Imogen Church is great, but whoever thought it a good idea to add the weird effect when characters were on the phone should reconsider.

I have really enjoyed the Erdemen Honor series. This book did not disappoint! It was a great story, and I'm looking forward to hearing more about these characters.

Sure, I've seen the movie a few times, but never understood the title "Deliverance." This is an amazing story, told through the point of view of Ed (John Voight's character), about 4 friends taking a canoe ride through untamed wilderness. Three of the 4 are 9-5'ers, bored with their lives, and looking for some sort of escape from routine. The 4th, Lewis (Burt Reynolds' character) is also a suburbanite but one of those apex alpha, philosophical, "carpe diem" types. While Lewis is the inspiration for the trip, the real story is about Ed's transformation along the way. Yep...all the evil hillbilly scenes happen (Dickey wrote the screenplay for the movie too), but the story is much more powerful than that. Ed, through nature, danger, fear, murder, and survival, is "delivered" from his day-to-day life. The writing is superb and gripping and Will Patton's narration brings the story to amazing clarity.

Lee Horsley did a bang up job on everyone EXCEPT the most important voice in this entire story...Gus McCrae. Every time Gus had something to say, he sounded like he was yelling across a field and drunk. It took all of the humor and whit out of one of the most colorful characters in the entire genre.

So far, I enjoyed this Longmire mystery the most. This story hops between a particularly nasty investigation early in Walt's career as a Marine investigator in Vietnam and modern day Wyoming. I liked learning a lot of Walt's, Lucian's, and Standing Bear's backgrounds in the wars gone by. This book provided two mysteries in one, tied together by a photograph and condolence letter written 40 years ago. Great story telling with the twists and turns I have come to expect from Craig Johnson. Great read!

Maybe it's because I have read a string of dull books lately that I found Hell Divers to be AWESOME! Perhaps it's because I am (was) a career paratrooper and Special Forces Freefall guy...either way, this book was great! Hundreds of years in the future, after the world kills itself with Nucs for a reason long forgotten, airships carry the last remnants of the human race. Circling the earth at 20,000 feet, they must sent small teams of "Hell Divers" to the surface to scrounge for parts to keep the ships afloat. Unfortunately, some nasty critters have evolved in the radioactive world of the dead that create more problems for the divers than the wicked storms they fall through.

At several points in this book, I was anxious. I literally found myself worried about characters and the missions. There was plenty of uncertainty and unpredictability that kept me incredibly focused. The scenes were painted with vivid detail, so I could feel the cold as I traveled along the frozen wasteland of earth. WELL DONE! Off to book 2!!

What made the experience of listening to The Twelve: A Novel the most enjoyable?

I don't have too many books in my F'ing Awesome shelf, but this one is definitely in. The Twelve is book two in The Passage trilogy, and it is simply exceptional story telling. This book hops through time a bit, from day one of the Vampire Apocalypse to the "time before" to 80 years in the future. The author does this with such mastery that I easily followed the story lines and the time traveling came at exactly the right time.

So we pick up five years ahead of where The Passage left off. Our heroes have moved on with their lives, at least the ones still living. They know that they can kill the Twelve, and doing so will kill their drac followers, so they set out to do just that. But the powers that be continually impede their efforts. Several tertiary characters in The Passage are brought to light in The Twelve and take thier places in the final battle. I was reminded of the high priest in Raiders of the Lost Arc when Guilder thought he could control the twelve. It didn't work out for him either.

Most of the loose ends were tied up at the end of this story, AND the set up for the final book was very well done. I will be starting book three (The City of Mirrors) immediately.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

Scott Brick is absolutely awesome.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES!

Would you listen to God of Vengeance again? Why?

Giles Kristian is a fabulous story teller and Philip Stevens totally brings this to life! If you haven't had your fix of stories where words like Blood-Rage, Blood-Fray, Iron-song, and Thor's Hairy Ass make regular and frequent appearances, then this is a book for you. Blood, intrigue, action, and violence come fully loaded in this one!

What other book might you compare God of Vengeance to and why?

God of Vengence is the prequel series to the unbelievably awesome Raven Series (Blood Eye, Sons of Thunder, Odin's Wolves). Here we meet Sigurd and learn of his story. Unlike many other Viking books that seem to be based on the Viking series on TV, this was very unique. Not only do we learn about Sigurd, but also about his very unusual crew, that he recruited here and there. Floki, Bram, Olaf...they all have very cool stories.

Which scene was your favorite?

Floki whipping big ass while chained to the Weeping Stone.

If you could take any character from God of Vengeance out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Floki

What did you like best about 11-22-63? What did you like least?

It was a very thorough peek back in time, when some things were better and some things were much worse.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The effects of the small changes made in the past. I would have liked to learn more about the wardens (yellow and green card men), where and when they come from and what was up with the time portals.

What does Craig Wasson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He really brought Jake to life.

Was 11-22-63 worth the listening time?

Wow....this is a tough question. Unlike most, I thought too much of this was just endless babble. Too many off-shoots had nothing to do with the story at all. Examples - how much time was spent on the two teens dancing in Derry (Debbie from the Levi?) and for what? What about the girl shot in the hunting accident? That had nothing to do with the story, but seemed to dominate hours of narration. So much of this could have been cut out and the story would not have been impacted in the least.

Any additional comments?

The repetition was over the top. You could create a drinking game out of this...every time you hear "the past harmonizes" or "the past is obdurate" you take a shot. It would help get through the long and drawn out stretches of this sappy love story disguised as a time traveling thriller.

If you could sum up For Whom the Bell Tolls in three words, what would they be?

captivating, powerful, intriguing

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I thought the performance was flat and monotonous...Robert Jordan was completely unemotional and monotone

Any additional comments?

The constant use of "obscenity" was very distracting. I wish they would have left the book as is without censoring.
