Historia
Seventeen-year-old Alice and her mother have spent most of Alice’s life on the road, always a step ahead of the uncanny bad luck biting at their heels. But when Alice’s grandmother, the reclusive author of a cult-classic book of pitch-dark fairy tales, dies alone on her estate, the Hazel Wood, Alice learns how bad her luck can really get: Her mother is stolen away - by a figure who claims to come from the Hinterland, the cruel supernatural world where her grandmother's stories are set. Alice's only lead is the message her mother left behind: "Stay away from the Hazel Wood."

Loved the treatment of the other characters
Revisado: 08-09-21
A very unique book that surprised me several times over. My favorite aspect was the way the author treated all her characters equally, giving them all agency and motivations and skills that were incredibly distinct from the main character. It felt like real life, in the way that every person is the protagonist of their own story. Alice was the MC, but she broke a lot of Chosen One stereotypes and wasn't the center of everyone's universe.

The DFZ, the metropolis formerly known as Detroit, is the world’s most magical city with a population of nine million and zero public safety laws. That’s a lot of mages, cybernetically enhanced chrome heads, and mythical beasties who die, get into debt, and otherwise fail to pay their rent. When they can’t pay their bills, their stuff gets sold to the highest bidder. That’s when they call me. I’m a Cleaner: a freelance mage employed by the DFZ to sort through the mountains of magical junk people leave behind. It’s not a pretty job, or a safe one....

DFZ FTW
Revisado: 04-16-21
Was really, incredibly surprised by how great this book was! The characters and the plot were all incredibly delightful. It lacked the cheesiness that I've seen in a lot of urban fantasy, and the world building and setting were very engaging.
The romance was a little YA, but I didn't mind. I really liked both Opal and Nik as their own characters, and the chemistry between them was great. Nik was a great male lead with a lot more depth and agency than your typical love interest.
The voice actress brought a lot of depth and charisma to Opal and Nik in particular. Some of the extra characters that she voiced were lacking in nuance and had more extreme sound profiles to differentiate them from the main characters. But still 5/5 for me because it never really bothered me, and her sort of throaty, sarcastic voice matched Opal's voice and inner dialogue so well IMO.

Shakespeare combined his love of theater with Greek mythology and the supernatural to create what is arguably his most playfully imaginative work. From love potions to bizarre transformations to the unforgettable play-within-a-play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a non-stop delight, and remains one of the milestones of the Bard’s canon.

An Unbeatable Performance of a Legendary Piece
Revisado: 03-24-20
The voice actors really brought the play to life. You won't just hear people reading the script; they truly take on the mantle of each character and understand the essence of the lines.
