Two Narrators Distracting
Revisado: 03-26-25
I enjoyed the book for the most part, but was disappointed with the narration. Having two narrators made it seem as if there were four characters, and having each narrator read the two main characters resulted in an odd presentation.

Historia
After recording the last interview of a month-long media extravaganza orchestrated by the brass, NYPD Detectives Chiara Corelli and P. J. Parker are hoping for time out of the spotlight working cold cases and/or solving low profile murders. But the brutal murder of Alessandra Moreau, a singer on track to becoming a superstar, in the living room of New York State Senator Leigh Drayman, a trans woman, is anything but.

So-so
Revisado: 10-07-24
Excellent narration. I didn’t care for the story of a relationship between two dysfunctional women, one of whom is particularly unlikeable in her total self absorption.

No Redeeming Qualities
Revisado: 09-09-24
The narration is horrendous. Sarah is no Abby Craden. Pace was off, inflection was off, she mispronounced words, and, in sum, made me want to read the book with my eyes, rather than listen to it. I might have done so had the story/writing been better. The characters are extremely unlikeable and grating, and the book is just an overall downer.

Historia
Valerie has been forgetting things. Her daughter worries about her being on her own in her big Victorian house—one rumored to be haunted after a tragedy decades earlier—and truth be told, she is a little lonely. With few options, she asks her adult son to move home, but it’s not quite the reunion she hoped for. Hudson is taciturn, moody, and frequently gone. The neighbors already hold a grudge against Hudson, and they aren’t happy about his return. When a young woman is found murdered a block away, suspicion falls on him immediately, without a shred of evidence.

Avoid This Book
Revisado: 11-02-23
Very little of redeeming value. Every character is unlikeable, if not detestable, the “plot” wanders aimlessly at so many points, with the heroine regaling us with uninteresting side-stories, the writing is barely better than a student’s high school fiction effort, and the timeline of events, jumping back and forth from various points in the past to the present day, caused confusion, at least for me. Toward the end, I couldn’t recall who was dead, nor did I care, and the only thrilling part of listening to this book was when the narration concluded. Sorry I bought it, even if it was on sale for $3.99. I never write reviews, but am doing so in the hope that I save someone else from wasting money.

When Poppy Perkins decides to talk back to a customer who thinks it’s okay to scream at her over donuts, Poppy knows she’s going to get fired. But what she doesn’t expect is for the customer to be a local celebrity, and for a video of their interaction to go viral—or for the customer to drop dead five minutes later, poisoned by the donut Poppy had just served him.

I would have stopped listening, but paid $1.99 and wanted to get my money’s worth. I didn’t. I was never able to get beyond the utterly ridiculous plot.

Historia
Wife. Mother. Breadwinner. Penelope Ruiz-Kar is doing it all - and barely keeping it together. Meanwhile, her best friend, Jenny Sweet, appears to be sailing through life. As close as the two women are, Jenny’s passionate marriage, pristine house, and ultra-polite child stand in stark contrast to Penelope’s underemployed husband, Sanjay, their unruly brood, and the daily grind she calls a career.

Don’t Waste Your Time
Revisado: 09-07-19
This is the first audio book that compelled to write a review. There is nothing to recommend this book; the characters are unlikeable to the point of distraction; the main character, as others have said, is whiny and self-involved; and the “story” goes nowhere. I also didn’t care for the narration, but can’t put my finger on why. In any event, I would steer clear.
