Deliciously creepy cabin story
Revisado: 02-22-24
This would be a great story to listen to on a cabin trip. A little melodramatic sometimes but still fun, if you like creepy stories.

Fun story and interesting historical information.
Revisado: 09-20-23
I saw this book on Audible daily deals and decided to give it a chance because I’m a Lord of the Rings fan. The story was entertaining and the history very interesting! Also as a bonus you can see where Tolkien got some of his names from.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

I never read The Martian and I loved this
Revisado: 09-13-23
I’m surprised at the disappointed reviews comparing this book to the author’s other blockbuster - which I never read (I saw the movie). I loved this book. It was fun and well narrated.

Historia
Everyone loves Mathias. Naturally, when he discovers it’s his destiny to save the world, he dives in headfirst, pulling his best friend, Aaslo, along for the ride. However, saving the world isn’t as easy, or exciting, as it sounds in the stories. The going gets rough, and folks start to believe their best chance for survival is to surrender to the forces of evil, which isn’t how the prophecy goes. At all. As the list of allies grows thin and the friends find themselves staring death in the face, they must decide how to become the heroes they were destined to be.

Very juvenile dialog, should be listed as a YA book.
Revisado: 08-26-21
I plowed through to chapter 17 and gave up. The characters, dialog, and humor are very juvenile. YA readers may enjoy it. The narrator does a good job with what he has to work with.
I had liked previous books by this author so gave it a shot, but the story is boring me to death. At chapter 17 I still am not engaged.

Historia
In the 25th century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person's consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or "sleeve") making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.

Do not expect this to be like the TV show.
Revisado: 07-16-20
I loved the Altered Carbon TV series because I’m a sci fi fan but struggled to get through this book. This is a detective story and a very different story from the TV show. It would be a good book for those who like a detective story.

Beautiful poetic writing and an interesting world.
Revisado: 11-22-19
The author writes in a beautiful poetic and formal high fantasy style reminiscent of Tolkien.
Overall I enjoyed the book, but I never felt much of a connection to the characters, which left me indifferent to their fate. Despite this, the world building was good and the excellent narration by Simon Vance make this a book worth listening to if you enjoy high fantasy.
(Full disclosure- I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)

75% Twilight, 25% The Secretary
Revisado: 11-08-12
If you like Twilight this book may be for you. Really, it is the same story with more sexual detail and without the vampires. I am not a Twilight fan so found this book to have few redeeming qualities. Some of the erotica was interesting, but spoiled by the main female character's unbelievable ability to climax on command - every time. Made me think that this book was actually written by a man. The narrator has an annoying "uptalk" teenage girl's speech pattern, completely botches her british accent, and cannot pronounce the word "sentient", but does a fair job otherwise. One of the biggest problems with this book in audio format is the complete description of date, time, subject, signature, etc. for each and every email that the characters exchange - and the emails are numerous. A half hour of listening to back and forth emails with all the above content included is enough to make anyone put it on double speed. I would not recommend purchasing this audiobook unless you are desperate for more Twilight.
