What a story! I didn’t particularly care for all of the narrators but easily overlooked as the story itself is so very good. You must stick with it to the end! You’re welcome 😃

Boring
Revisado: 03-09-25
Very juvenile. Should be under YA. Boring characters and storyline. This was a book club read but I wouldn’t recommend.

Historia
Felicia Lyons, a stressed-out stay-at-home mom, struggles to sprint ahead of the demands of motherhood while her husband spends long days at the office. Felicia taps, utters mantras, and breathes her way through most situations, but on some days, like when the children won't stop screaming her name or arguing over toy trucks and pretzel sticks, she wonders what it would be like to get in her car and drive away.

Intriguing

…disturbing, hopeful, honest, brutal and one of the best stories I’ve listened to in a long time. Sadeqa Johnson is a master storyteller. Be prepared to be moved, angry and hopeful; sometimes all at once. Great narration, too.

Historia
Ruth is a woman who believes in and despairs of the curative power of love. Her daughter, Eleanor, who is addicted to drugs, has just had a baby, Lily. Ruth adjusts herself in ways large and small to give to Eleanor what she thinks she may need—nourishment, distance, affection—but all her gifts fall short. After someone dies of an overdose in Eleanor's apartment, Ruth hands her daughter an envelope of cash and takes Lily home with her, and Lily, as she grows, proves a compensation for all of Ruth's past defeats and disappointment. Love without fear is a new feeling for her.

Great Read
Revisado: 12-27-24
The uniqueness of the plot as written, as opposed to the sameness of other writings dealing with addiction, is unexpected and worthwhile. Aspects are dark and funny and heartbreaking and life-affirming.
The narrator is a good fit for the story. If you’re looking for a real life read this would be a great one to choose.

Historia
Sara Marsala barely knows who she is anymore after the failure of her business and marriage. On top of that, her beloved great-aunt Rosie passes away, leaving Sara bereft with grief. But Aunt Rosie’s death also opens an escape from her life and a window into the past by way of a plane ticket to Sicily, a deed to a possibly valuable plot of land, and a bombshell family secret. Rosie believes Sara’s great-grandmother Serafina, the family matriarch who was left behind while her husband worked in America, didn’t die of illness as family lore has it . . . she was murdered.

Just so-so
Revisado: 08-31-24
I read this for my book club. The narration was very impressive but the story was so blah. I never developed feelings for any of the characters or their plot lines. And I’m really starting to get over the dual timeline stories. That technique is so overused now that I’ve really started moving away from books that utilize the form.

The reversal of time.
Revisado: 06-08-24
I’ve just finished the trilogy. I really enjoyed the first and second books as the main characters moved from childhood into the teen years, early and lasting friendships, adventures and misadventures and plans for their future lives.
Book 3 threw me off from time to time. I had the characters from the first 2 books so ingrained that it was sometimes difficult to remember that I was in the “before” of 1 and 2 and had to sometimes place what I was hearing into a future reference.
All in all I enjoyed and recommend the series for those who prefer lighter listening.
Kudos to the narrator. Great job!

Fantastic and Fascinating
Revisado: 02-03-24
I was blown away by this book! I listen to 4-6 audio books a week. This is by far one of the very best. I purchased it as a book of the day at a reduced price and thought I might listen sometime when my “must listens” were in short supply. I can’t believe I allowed this amazing book to languish in my library for several months before finally starting it. I’ve never read or listened to anything like it. I laughed, cried and cheered.
I typically do not enjoy books read by the author. However, I can’t imagine anyone other than Blair Fell reading his book with the pacing, passion, compassion and knowledge that expression
